[Hurricane Jack]

I've had one lion just like this one for probably 30 yrs. it came from an early 19th century mansion from my little home town. Apparently it's mate was broken long before the destruction of the home & the sale. Today I found this one! It looks to the right in the same direction as mine does. I don't know if maybe the true mate looks to the left or if they were identical. I had to stop to see if they might sell it to me but no one was home...except a big dog. I'll be going back.

A good day at the Nashville flea market yesterday.

An original oil painting of a bull fighter, a hat rack made from bull horns, and a vintage Stetson. That's the order I found the stuff in, too. It's like one thing led to the next.

A good day at the Nashville flea market yesterday.

An original oil painting of a bull fighter, a hat rack made from bull horns, and a vintage Stetson.

Good finds Dale! My wife never got along with my Matador art (done with fish tank gravel) so I gave it to my barber. Very cool that yours is an original!

Took one day off of working on the barn during my staycation to drive into northern Arkansas. Of course we came back with more stuff...

The two MCM dinette tables were from a garage sale. $25 for the pair.

The best bargains were this Navajo vegetal dyed woven rug for $4.50 from a flea market and a Navajo artist Robert Chee (1937 - 1972) painting for $1.11 from Goodwill.

The clothes dryer will be used to display some of my vintage neckties. $35 from a flea market.

The 19 pound desk lamp was $5.00 from the same garage sale as the tables and the cane was a quarter.

The Old Crow decanter was $2.00 from a different garage sale.

The brass bell was $15 from a flea market.

And of course some ties and a shirt from Goodwill.

Also needed this bird house as it matches well with the decor we’re using in the “office” in our new shop / barn.

When I was up a few months back I heard a couple of folks say July would be the last one. Didn't hear anything like that this visit, all seemed business as usual. Hopefully if it does get torn down for a new soccer stadium, the organizers can find a new home for it. We used to have a good one here in Birmingham, but after the old fairgrounds were torn down that was pretty much it. They tried to make a go of it for awhile at the Shriner's temple, but it just didn't work out. Haven't had one here for over a decade now. The ones in Nashville and Atlanta are close enough, but it's an all day effort, not a quick morning visit, so I don't get to them very often.

Nice haul, Bob. The western shirt is great, but I'd have to call the old crow the cake taker from that bunch, but it's all mighty good.

Sorry to hear about the bullfighter. I can say a lot about my ex-wife that isn't necessarily positive, but to her credit, she never took issue with the matador art. She even gave me a vintage bullfighter clock for my birthday once.

Oh gosh no ... no bending over for anyone involved. The "cold, dead hands" was what it would take to get my wife to let her collection of Native American art/crafts go.

I got a chuckle and spent the morning remembering my Father who was “not a welder”, as he would say, but a “steel fabricator”.
This looks like something Jim Jim would make, especially the base. You'd be able to mount a building on it and after a tornado it would be the only thing standing.
His expanded steel Christmas tree with bolt ornaments and steel star was legend for years.
I miss him!! Thanks for the memories!

Good ones are part of a dying art I deal with regularly. Even certified welders. I could tell you lots of stories. Glad to learn something about your dad, Bowen.

Bowen, this is a pic of a pic but that is all I have. This is a gate cut from 3/16" steel plate. I drew it out from rough measurements, but not to scale. A steel fabricator cut this out with a hand torch. The buffalo cape was sandblasted for texture, then everything hand painted by an artist. It’s an electric card gate now. More pics later.

Bowen, this is a pic of a pic but that is all I have. This is a gate cut from 3/16" steel plate. I drew it out from rough measurements, but not to scale. That’s totally cool Jack and one heck of a torch cut which is not as easy as one would think! Lot of edge clean up.
Most of yesterday i spent thinking back of projects he did. Thanks for the spark!!
The Valentine’s Day necklace he made for Mom was a classic. Steel chain you could pull a truck with and a 3” heart said “”I Love You Junie. Weighed about 10 lbs.
