I mean I don't think it's even a subjective thing. They make excellent jackets. The issue might be that you were exposed to the licensed jackets that Schott's French dealer has made abroad with product numbers beginning LC; those are awful. But they're not real Schotts.

Schott doesn't specify details that repro makers do, because they don't need to. You don't need to know the tannery if the maker you're sourcing from gets good hides. And their pattern makers are excellent. Both Tom and I from this thread regularly wear Schott Perfectos. I have a few at this point, and I visit their factory almost every year for the sale.
I’ll trust you because you have more expertise with these jackets than I do. I’m just judging by the ones I’ve seen online or had an opportunity to see IRL.

I am with @Aloysius , but I do get your point. The issue with Schott is that there’s A LOT of jackets that appear very similar at first glance, but are infinitely different.

Firstly there are European made jackets “under licence” (if indeed such licence still exists). They are utterly, utterly cheap, ugly pieces. A bit like the “Lacoste”, “Boss”, “Prada” labelled stuff you can get along the shores of the eastern Mediterranean.

Than there’s the classic Perfectos (118, 618, 613). These are great jackets with top-notch craftsmanship. The “problem” here is that there are (too) many hides to choose from, and if you don’t want to end up with a jacket in a leather that just doesn’t appeal (to you), you either need to be able to see the jackets in person, or you have to do a lot of reading.

Lastly, there’s the seasonal offerings. They are hit or miss, IMO. Sometimes spectacular leathers, sometimes pretty nice designs (I first meant to say “innovative“, but its really more how they adapt traditional designs and transfer it into a modernised look).
I dislike a lot of the thinner, softer leathers they often use for their “fashion“ items (indeed I often have the notion of “inferior quality”, when others marvel over the “instant softness straight outta da box”…), and the elongated cuts of the past years don’t see unilateral love here too.

So yeah, you’re right: very easy to find a “Schott” labelled jacket that sucks. But do trust us: if you’re able to handle a 613 SH or 618HH, I am sure you would instantly convert into a believer.

Last thing before I stop. While prices have gone up some, a Perfecto these days is pretty much exactly 30% of what Stuff takes for the RMC J-24
