Restoring a Lewis Leathers badge

First off, let me preface this post by saying that I know I have been posting a lot. I do want to be approved to start selling some stuff on here - that’s one reason but I also appreciate this community and the advice and information Ive received. Thank you all for that. I think I’ve become a recent adict for purchasing vintage stuff , so hopefully the stuff I’ve been buying that doesn’t fit will find a good home from someone on this forum.

Now to the point, has anyone restored one of these badges? I’m thinking a gold paint marker and steady hand will do the trick. I’m obviously trying to avoid sending the jacket out to some overpriced restorer.

Saying the quiet part aloud.

You are told in another thread there's the Ask A Question thread for this kind of thing and yet create one more thread (which btw, creating a new thread or posting in an existing one counts the same towards the 20 messages). At least you didn't just post "Nice jacket" 10 times.

So I guess you guys would prefer that I lie ? I was just being honest. These would all be things that I would post anyway just not at this rate. It’s the rules that prompted that, nothing I would do normally if it wasn’t the rules.

Anyway, not trying to get into disagreements on here. Was just trying to be honest and post things that others might find interesting or valuable, or start a conversation.

My bad if I posted a question not where the questions go.

To your direct Lewis Leathers question, it may be best to inquire of Lewis directly if they offer a replacement.
If US-based, there are several options to have the patch replaced, which I think could be easier than trying to restore the lettering detail on your existing patch.

Hey - You have a Lewis Leather! I have still never handled one. :)

Thanks,. What are these options for replacing the patch in the US? I assume I would need an original patch from Lewis to keep it authentic

So Dena at Great Leather is no longer working with very heavy Horse and steerhide, however I suspect she could work on your Lewis. She is on here at @iknowleather
Here website: https://www.greatleather.com/

She's the Best! I trust her fully and have also been to her shop.

The danger with resorting something like this, or even replacing, is that it can look out of place. Personally I'd leave well along. This is a very normal aging pattern with the logo patch that Lewis have been putting on the jacket as standard since 1968; a sizeable proportion of potential buyers don't care for an obvious logo and would regard a somewhat worn one as a definite plus.

Why would you want to undo patina?
I respect that opinion. I'm just the kind of guy that likes to make stuff look the best possible, as long as it's done properly and tastefully. Kind of like the mechanic who finds a broken down 57 chevy in a barn, who fixes it and brings it back, close to what it looked like originally. Some patina I like. I just think you should be able to read the patch.
