This looks like a cousin to Joe’s Dobbs Fifteen—a 1940s Resistol Ten. Love this thing—very soft winter weight felt in a color scheme that looks more like a Borsalino. Could probably do with another round of steam and brush but a real keeper. My favorite combo of 1 3/8 ribbon and narrow binding. Thanks to Adrian @Miamibruno for this one!

Enjoy the weekend!

Outstanding proportions on that one. I'm a fan of the color scheme too!

This one still needs a cleanup but I wanted to get it posted first. My neighbor down the road had an estate sale this morning (her mom passed last year, her dad many years prior). She had several of her dad's modern cowboy hats and, among them, this Resistol Kitten Finish Beaver Twenty. This one is an OR/San Antonio style with a 2 1/8 inch brim, 2 inch ribbon, a Cavanaugh edge, no plastic on the liner, and a handwritten production label. She and her sisters "think" their dad bought the hat in 1962, but I'm wondering if it might be older?

Dobbs Fifteen - 1940s
Soft Moldable Medium Grey Felt
4 1/2 Crown as shaped (5 1/2 open)
1 1/4 Light Silver Ribbon
2 3/4 brim with Bound edge

This Dobbs Fifteen was one super dirty (and rather pungent) hat upon its arrival. I was kinda surprised as I couldn’t detect the dirt in the seller photos… really only appeared to be misshapen and I guess what I thought was shadows and crevices was soiled areas. Heavy brushing did not do much to help rid the dirt. So I went after it with a damp rag and a bowl of water with a little Dawn dish detergent. I Scrubbed the entirety of the exposed areas of the felt and the ribbon. It seemed to help a lot… as I can’t so much tell where the dirty areas were. Steam and a whole lot of sunshine helped to curb the smell and whip it into shape.

The felt is the soft, thin and moldable felt we’ve come associate with 1940s. It is a medium grey with subtle blue or green tones depending on light. The 1 1/4 silver ribbon is not typical of the ribbon materials I am used to. It has a texture to it and is very soft to the touch. The 2 3/4 brim is bound with sort of lavender grey grosgrain binding. The liner is extremely dirty… but I can make out some remnants of the gold Dobbs Roundel tip. The sweat was super dirty and flattened out.. I cleaned that up and lubricated the leather with some MCT oil which really seemed to help soften it up. Under the sweat, I did find a 1940s HCA manufacturing tag. All and all… I’d say this was probably a heck of a nice hat in its day.

Will you keep that crease, Randy? It is killer!

Yes, this one will stay as-is after cleanup. I have a No. 1 quality and a couple of ORs, but this is the first short brim/Cattlemen's crease hat in my collection reminiscent of the FDR, and Truman style hats.

I have a Stetson Fifteen Mode edge and I'm also excited to add another Cavanaugh edge to my collection.

The Railbird is a really interesting hat. As it appears to me to be a mid 50s-ish hat… but it looks like they used that ‘40s Disney like‘ fabric sweat reeding style. I am guessing it was to make this a softer… form to your head type of sweat. Or I could just be seeing it wrong :) Neat hat for sure.

This a Lee Trend. I won it in an Ebay auction. Seller was bit confused on the brim size saying it was 2 1/2 inches but it's only 2 1/4. The felt is thick stuff and is easily shaped without steam. There's no color designation on the sweatband, but the quality seems rather high.
