Mayser Spezial fedora in brown. Size 57, unlined, with the raw edge brim at 6,5cm and the crown 11cm at the center dent. Easy to date this one: 150 years after 1800 would place it in 1950. Looks about right to me. The cloth crown patch is a nice touch.
Sold by Hut Zeumer in Mannheim, Germany. We've seen quite a few of their hats here on the lounge. The last pic is of their shop in 1903.

Splendid hat, Scott. I like the crease you put in there.

Actually, all I did to this one was tighten up the front a bit (shown in the photos), and then relaxed it again (after the photos) because my daughter, whose fashion sense I greatly respect, said she liked it better that way (she actually used other terminology). The diamond was already there, although I may have pushed it out just a wee bit more.

That is a beauty, Scotty. Great sheen, shape, and diamond crease, too. I assume a "Tux Adam" was designed to be worn with a tuxedo. Nothing at all wrong with the way you're wearing it btw. We just don't often see these tuxedo Fedoras. I'm lucky enough to have a Borsalino one. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Steve. I do wear my hats with just about any (every?)thing, although about the most out-there thing I wear, when it's cold, are hoodies, and usually with a collared shirt underneath, although not in the above pictures because I wasn't going anywhere. Usually it's a collared shirt and a leather jacket, sometimes with a sweater or sweatshirt material cardigan in between.

But I like a fedora with a hoodie and leather jacket over it, assuming the colors work.

Although I don't usually care for black hats, truth be told, I bought this hat because:

- the proportions (and size) were perfect. It's not often I see a vintage fedora with a 2 3/8" brim and perfectly matching proportions.
- I have some black leather jackets that I wanted a black hat for. Gray is nice, but sometimes I wanna go all black, especially when the jacket, pants, and shoes are black.

Anton Pichler fedora in a colour called mongol mele. Size 53 with the underwelt brim at 5,4cm and the crown at 10cm at the pinch. And a fancy ribbon to boot. There are so many colours in this felt that it's mindboggling. Very nifty little hat (bought it as a gift for someone).

My latest, from @Bill Hughes (again), a '30s Adam: The "Tux Adam."

All black, 2 3/8" brim (my ideal), and all other dimensions in perfect proportion: front pinch right around 4 1/2".

Some pictures with flash (on right), some without (on left), all with a combination of incandescent indoor and outdoor-simulation bulbs.

I think the color is more accurate, in this case, without the flash.

I don't normally care one way or another about black hats, but there is something special about this one--great proportions, and it's not shy about being photographed; the felt reflects light beautifully. And it looks comfortable and suits you well. Nice!

Thanks, Al.

I did notice, and was a bit surprised, at how well the hat, a black hat, shows off all its lines under both flash and non-flash amateur photographs.

One unknown is this lighting situation. Before this I had never combined traditional and 'outdoor' incandescent lighting. It is possible that this combination helped bring out all (?) the details that are usually lost on black hats under amateur photography.

Borsalino Trionfo in morello colour, which is a very dark brown with some cherry tones to it. Size 57 with the overwelt brim at 4,8cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Longhaired finish and the hand of the felt is spectacular. Don't see many Trionfo line Borsalinos in the vintage stores here. The label indicates a late sixties to mid-seventies hat.

This one was sitting on a mannequin in a vintage store and caught my eye. Sometimes things are meant to be.
Echter Mayser wildleder (suede/chamois finish) in a size 61 with a contrasting narrow ribbon and brim binding. Bound brim at just under 7cm and crown 10,5cm at the center dent. The hand to the felt is fabulous and I really like the proportions of this hat.

Now that is a nice looking hat. Love that ribbon color.

Thanks, gentlemen. It is quite a flashy hat with all those colours, but certainly not a party hat. This hat is in a size even Ignacio would have to admit defeat if he'd have to make it fit you, Max.

As you know I've got nothing against fezzes, Max. This is probably not a keeper though.

Hmmm. Is the Lounger one who can't wait to leave California?

I can't tell you that, because the package might be intercepted if word got out;)

Knox Flying Cloud Fedora. Good morning. Still working on several hats and this has me a bit stumped. I think one of my questions was answered (the pin) but I am unsure of the date of manufacture. I read in Wiki that "It went defunct in 1932 when it along with Cavanagh-Dobbs, Inc. and Dunlap & Company to form the Hat Corporation of America." I thought this hat was a bit later, perhaps 50s. Can anyone share any information? Thanks. View attachment 198546 View attachment 198547 View attachment 198548 Many thanks.

Late 50s, maybe 60s. The KNox name didn't die when Hat Corporation bought it, and I think Hatco (now in Garland, TX) owns the name. Are there any tags behind the sweatband?
