Well another great packing job! I’m 4 for 4 on my last 4 hats...
Strong work restoring that hat to it's former glory after such a lamebrained attempt at packaging. On my monitor the felt appears as four different shades of brown in the photos you posted, and none of 'em look particularly good with that black ribbon. I think a copper color would look much better, so please post photos when/if you do change the ribbon.

What does a man with every hat under the sun order as a custom? Well, it's this one. Ballsy and quite cool, Max!
Thank you, Stefan! I had been wanting it from the beginning of my hat-buying. A Thoroughbred Western! It really does look and feel as if it is made of horse skin. I keep expecting it to quiver.

Hey, Stefan@steur, look at the other unusual custom I ordered from @humanshoes.
It already arrived, I just have to go pick it up.
It was inspired by a friend of mine's avatar.
He's Dutch, but wishes he were a Spansh swordsman.

Made in 100% beaver, not that chafa (google it) rabbit hair they use for tourist hats in Spain nowadays.

Thanks, it was really dirty in the before pics and still an little damp in the after, so the color is probably all over the place in the pics, but I agree with you on the black ribbon. I already have the vintage Schiff cooper ribbon on order, so I’ll see how it works....

Not a bad looking hat after the horrible packing job!

Well another great packing job ! I’m 4 for 4 on my last 4 hats. I’ve been looking for something that would look good with a copper colored ribbon and I want to try my hand at making a shark gill bow. Thought this Mallory would look good in it, and only $10....

Yes, I used tape on it, then brushed good, removed the liner, steamed it, then misted it down with distilled water to take it to open crown. Then after it was mostly dry I brushed and steamed again, then steamed in the bash.
Great, thanks. This is one thing I need to learn how to do. I'll probably buy a couple of beaters in reasonable shape and give it a shot.

I actually prefer buying ones that need some TLC, It’s very rewarding to me. The main thing is if the sweat is in decent shape, but you would be surprised how resilient a quality felt is. Let me know if you need some help.

We'll expect a full report on it, Max. I expect Rick has done another spot-on job on this one. Very cool hats they are if done right. And I AM a Spanish swordsman, but it's a secret, remember?;)

It is the sensible thing to do. Not only is it very rewarding, but the beaten up looking ones usually don't command the premium prices. So great hats to be had at low cost.
