Apparently these are rare. Well, in my discovery journey of American hats, I found this one. Caxton ten in the colour "chalk". A very light grey in fact. Don't know what the lot "Nelson" refers to. Size 56 (American 7). Bound brim at 7,5cm and crown at 11cm at the pinch. Thanks to Mike @Redfokker it came with its proper box too. Shapes like a dream with no steam or effort and the hand of the felt is excellent.

Thanks, Bowen. As soon as I dug my fingers into the crown I decided I’d keep it. A little cleaning and a new ribbon and I’ll be good to go.

Is it sacrilege to go with something other than a thin ribbon?
No, not to me. I’ve seen some very nice medium 3/4” or so ribbons put on westerns. I think it’s a nice change up. A slightly darker tanish one would set that one apart!!
Bama has such a combo i think.

I took a gamble on a mystery hat that had its liner and sweat replaced. On top of that, the seller posted poor photos and had no idea what the hat was. What I bought:

And the original sweat was included in the box:

The two cord ribbon was also included loose in the box. My only disappointment is that it was sold to me as a 7 5/8 when it is clearly a 7 1/2.

That gamble sure paid off, Brent.

Dr. Z must have had some style. Of course the Dr. Z I know is the CEO of Mercedes Benz Damlier, he would wear something like this.

I remember reading post about the history of Vanzina (by Daniele?) This one is very nice.

Mirtillo is one of my favorite Borsalino colors. The finish on this one is so nice.

This is one of the finest American hats I've had the pleasure to send to you. It is a scary color though. Beautiful.

The details and look of this one really exude quality. Very nice Steve.
Thanks, Mike. Just can't leave a good hat orphaned. Have to find it a good home.

I've been looking for sometime for a Stetson (real) panama in an Or style. Just right with a 5 1/2" OC and a 2 3/4"brim. Embarrassed to say so but I finally found one when I opened up one of my generic hat boxes to mail a hat. There it sat. It's either early on-set alzheimer's or hat amnesia. I think it's the latter. I gotta sell more hats.

That is so nice, the real deal! I'm sure there's someone here, in your size, willing to help you downsize!

Hahaha. You ought to give the person you sent it to a discount for helping you find it. [emoji57]

I agree with Bowen. I think a medium/mid-width ribbon looks great on a western/country hat, and one that's tan or mid-brown (maybe with a hint of an orange/rust hue?) that's at least a little darker than the felt would look great. Besides, it's your hat now; do with it what you want.
