Some new hats arrived last week in Verona from Tuscany
30age83.jpg

Albertini made by Cappellificio Falcus, actual owner of this brand and Panizza
10en4ug.jpg

Size is 59 or 7 3/8 US Felt is very interesting, soft and finished with hair, pliable without steam
r0cy85.jpg

The color is a grey with a hint of blue. Very Italian classic hat ina excellent "modern" rendition

The second hat is a puzzle that during years of Italian hats collection I solved or so it seems to me
This is branded "Robert's hat" and it is clearly a product from one of the big Italians hats producers
2jfkhw3.jpg

Size is 58 or 7 1/4 US Felt is between grey and blue very moldable
No English or USA origin....the Italians historical brands had many "second brand" to arrive on the market in every section

This very nice hat come from Panizza - Cappellificio Falcus production or Monza producers

It is a little gem I add to the collection

More to come

Found this Resistol Explorer in Cinder at an antique shop yesterday. It's a 7 1/4, which I NEVER find in the wild, the brim is 2 1/4" , and after a quick brushing to knock all the dust off of it, I am supremely satisfied with my $15 purchase!

There was no price tag on it, and when I brought it to the checkout counter to inquire about the price, the shop owner said, "20?" I came back at $12, and she said, "15.", to which I slowly agreed so as to not appear excited! [emoji106]

I know the hat is older than 1968, but can anyone dial it in any more than that for me?

My wife is concerned about the staining and spots on the liner, but they don't really concern me. Is it anything I should be worried about, or just stick it on my noggin and roll with it?

I'm especially digging the brim binding on this one!

I don't think they should be a problem unless there is an odor present. If so, you can easily remove the liner and wash it gently by hand in Woolite. If that fails to remove the stains (or lighten them), then you can try washing the liner in a mild Oxyclean mixture. Beware the stronger the detergent, the greater the risk of washing away the logo and lettering on the liner. If all else fails, washing it in a little Dawn might help, but just know that you do risk removing the logo the stronger detergent you use.

Good luck and great find!

If you remove the liner soaking it in gentle dish soap in cold water will generally remove those type of stains. Sometimes it might be necessary to use your thumb & forefinger with some dish soap on some individual spots. I hear Woollite will work also. I then let the liner air dry spread over the top of a pitcher so it will retain it's shape.

Meh, it's just foxing from skin oils, sweat, etc. I wouldn't worry about it. If you're really worried about cooties, spray the inside with Lysol. I'm with Rick, don't compromise the liner stitching if you can avoid it.
As a card-carrying germaphobe, I understand the aversion to foxing, but rarely have I ever found a liner with foxing that had any sort of odor. I used to remove liners with foxing and wash them, but over time, my patience for foxing has grown. If it really bothers you, then take it out and clean it. If not, leave it stitched and wear it in good health!

Yeah, I don't worry too much about catching anything weird from hats. I figure if it doesn't smell weird, any bacteria or other killer substances are dead and gone long ago, since most of that stuff doesn't live too long away from living tissue or moisture. I generally just pick hats up and stuff them onto my head as soon as I discover them, which is exactly what I did with this one. It was a complete surprise that it fit, since the size tag at the rear of the hat had "7" without the 1/4. Since I've run across mislabeled hats in the past, my general reaction to hats that tell me there's no way they'll fit is to throw them on and check it out anyway. VERY glad I did so with this one! I really just mentioned the stains for my wife's peace of mind. She's a bit of a germaphobe. She feels much better about it now! Thanks!!
