I just picked this one up at my local tractor supply.
Bear & Son Farmhand, a patriotic knife that's actually made in the USA.

I pre-ordered this Case Cheetah cub from Shepard hills cutlery back in January and just received it.
it's going straight into my pocket so I can start building up a good patina on the blade.

I have one and carried it years ago. FYI On mine, the guards loosened up on that pin until the blade wouldn't close proerly without manually adjusting the guards. That can probably be fixed to tighten it back up and take the play out of it, don't know, did'n't try. Just passing along for awareness. But it is a beautiful knife.

a cheetah cub or full sized cheetah?

these were discontinued for a number of years, just brought back from their pattern vault for 2026.

tightening the pin eventually is something I can definitely do.
it would be a nice g u n stock lockback with the guard removed if I wanted to do that, but then there'd be a hole in the blade.

Full size I believe. The knife is in a drawer. I carried it probably 20 years ago.

my knives don't see heavy duty use and I have so many that they get swapped out regularly.
I'm not afraid to use them or even modify them for my preferences, I just take care of them and don't have 1 that gets carried every day for months or years like I used to.

Very nice. Always promised myself Ill buy a Lagouile in France at some point. I did see them selling at a very good price in Oleron about ten years ago, but for some reason decided against picking one up then. Here in the UK, they're very much on the pricey side. I recently looked at some gorgeous Lagouile cutlery, but it was well over two grand UK for an eight-setting service. I'd need, table, room decor and all for that on my salary!

My day to day carry here, when I do take a knife out, is an Elk Ridge three-blade, non-locking penknife. Picked it up back around 2010 when eBay announced they were no longer going to allow the sale of knives and an ebayer was clearing out stock. I picked up three for about two pounds each; the retail price was between £20 and £30. They've done me well ever since. Not especially "dressy", but 'traditional' enough they don't look out of place coming out of a suit pocket or from jeans.

I'm still tempted by one of the aluminium-sided Swiss Army knives, the one with just the bottle opener and a single blade, for EDC. Bit more modern than I normally go, but everything I'd use. On a school trip to Switzerland in 1992 I bought a Huntsman. till a nice souvenir to have, but discovered very quickly that I have little use for the vast majority of its blades and functions. For a multi-function knife, my old West German mil-surplus Wenger does it all. Most of the time, though, almost any job I would reach for a knife for just requires one, decent blade.

I had a friend who said her daddy told her a man wasn’t worth a d*mn if he did not carry a pocket knife, I think you are on to something with this one!

There definitely was a time when that was very true, and I still don't leave the house without two pocket knives. One is none, and two is one.

I recall another, similar, saying. If you travel without a Swiss Army Knife and a short-wave radio, you don't deserve to get home. Of course short-wave radio isn't what it was, though it is still wise to travel with a small AM/FM radio. You never know.

But the general idea, be prepared, hasn't really lost relevance, even today. Be prepared has evolved.
