Interesting vision for the willow Jared. I'll have to explore that option. In the meantime I've ordered some teal ribbon just to see how it looks against this body.

Well, I’m interested in seeing both colors of ribbon. Without seeing them, I’d lean towards the cream as teal is too easy to get wrong. In either case, a thin ribbon does just seem right.

Brent, you need to leave the man alone for just a little bit! He's finishing up one for me as we speak, and I don't want any unnecessary delays! ;) ;)

I am interested in how the willow hat turns out, though. Not my color, but it is unique and I'm very curious to see the finished product and the colors involved.

Take care,
Regan

The Willow excites me. The powder blue left me flat and uncertain.

I’m looking forward to seeing your hat too; when do you expect to receive it?

Update on your hat Regan. I started over with a new hat body yesterday and will be shipping the finished product next week. The good news is that I'll be using the reject body to make my very own "Trekker" hat. Who says the shoemaker's kids can't have new shoes?

Regan said he doesn’t mind waiting for his hat and would like you to finish all of mine before you start on his. @Woodtroll is just that kind of guy.

I’m sure the original body would have been fine, Rick, I hope you didn’t go to all that trouble just because of the dye job. A little dust and rain would have fixed that in short order. But... if that gave you the reason for your own hat, then by all means you can blame me for being a tough customer!

There is no real rush as it is still hot and humid here. Please just make sure you have room to work on it before all of Brent’s hat bodies fill up all your elbow room! ;)

Thanks for the update, take care!

I finally found some time in the shop to practice my luring skills. It takes a leap of faith for me to slap an oil impregnated luring pad onto a beautiful beaver hat body, but, if done correctly, the results are remarkable.

I learn something here every day! I had read a random mention of luring here and there and knew it involved oil, but I didn't understand what was involved. Does it just bring the colors and sheen out, or is it for protection, or...? Looks like you're using just plain coconut oil?

Yep, plain old organic coconut oil. That's what they recommend in one of old hat maker's books I have. The process restores oils to the fur that are stripped out in the felting process. It brings out the color/sheen and I believe it will have the added benefit of making the felt more rain resistant. I also read that luring was often used to restore old hats to new looking condition. I lured your hat this morning Regan and will probably use the process on all my hats from now on.

Great photos! What color is that felt? It has a purple hue that I really like.

Actually Brent, that's your first Black Cherry body that I rejected because it had too many color variations. I kept that one to experiment on and luring evened out the color substantially. I lured the black cherry that's in the mail to you now so please let me know what you think.
