I might have a couple more lost hats. After winning and paying for them on Aug. 30 I was expecting to hear from the auction house's third-party shipper. After a week or so I reached out to the auction house. They said they had dropped them off "last night" (which was on Sept. 7). I was able to get ahold of the shipper and they said that the auction house doesn't do business with them any longer and they don't have the hats. I reached back out to the auction house, but crickets so far.

I heard from the actual third-party-shipper (I guess they had contacted me by phone for payment way back when but didn't send a receipt -- and I didn't remember which hats that call pertained to so when I searched my email I thought I had no contact from them). Turns out the hats are really lost as they shipped them with UPS and they are in limbo somewhere. They started a claim today. I hope UPS finds them -- I'd rather have the hats than the money back.

I hate third-party shipping from auction houses. My fault for not getting an estimate up front (I made the assumption it would be similar to The UPS Store’s doubled street rates).

The box was big as it had a Stetson Tom Mix in it’s original box inside. Recently received Stetson 3X on top for scale:

The “professional” packing consisted of scraps of bubble wrap (and an empty sandwich bag):

There was a scrap or two of bubble wrap on the sides:

And two whole pieces on the bottom:

All this for $116.55 from Arizona to Missouri.

Never again …. (unless the hat is worth it).

Bosatino (see first pics).

Buth this is the first time I've seen an actual and obvious fake on offer as the genuine article. Here are some of the the auction pics. That's just not right.

UPS still doesn’t know where they are, but apparently they were delivered (unbeknownst to them). Guess I’ll let The UPS Store know that tomorrow so they can cancel their claim.

My wife loves browsing second hand and thrift stores. I look for hats. Here are the last 3 I have found in the last 2 weeks. The black one on the far left is from Hippodrome Hatters I found about 2 weeks ago. They were from Baltimore, and I am under the impression they recently went out of business. The middle one I found 4 days ago. It is from Seifter Associates and made in Italy. I did use some hat stiffener to harden it up a little. The grey one on the right I found this morning. it is a Dabbs Challenger. I put new feathers on all of them.

I had a Hippodrome Hatters hat. It was a jobber hat that one of the big hat companies made and just labeled it with the store’s name. Mine was a decent hat.
