I just came back from the pop up store, i went in with my wallet ready and bad intentions, but left empty handed...

A size 42 was good in the chest and shoulders, but both body and sleeves were a good 2" too short. Since the Long only adds 1" to both, it wouldn't work for me. On top of that, the jacket is completely the wrong shape for my body.
It is basically hourglass shaped, with wide shoulders, and very wide hips compared to the waist. Considering it is so short, the wide bottom hem ends up on my waist instead of my hips and it juts looks all kind of wrong. The bottom opening is HUGE for the size.

Looking at the picture posted above, the guy probably has his left hand on his hip to hide the fact that the jacket is flaring out and is much wider than he his at the bottom...

I think this jacket would work very well on a physique like @dudewuttheheck, someone with little drop from chest to hips, but with a thin waist. If you are very V shaped and have a big chest to hips drop, i doubt it will work for you.

Other than the fit, this is a very nice jacket, the 4 they had in store all had a nice grainy hide, impeccable stitching, the lining is a very nice smooth rayon, slightly thicker than what is in the californian, i liked it a lot.
If only it fit me... It appears i am back to looking for a vintage Cal center zip CHP.

Or a brand new LW CHP (which looks suspiciously like the Cal versión, all the way down to the fur lined cuffs)!
Thanks for the detailed write up of this jacket Carlos. I’m quite happy to hear it actually because I had just received my LW jacket when ELMC rolled out the Highway Star. At the time I experienced a bit of buyers remorse because the ELMC version looks so nice and it was available right off the shelf.
How were the other jackets at the pop up, did you see anything that caught your eye?

Honestly i didn't really look too much, i came in with one goal, didn't want to get tempted by things i didn't know existed...
Also, I'm not really into military jackets and it is mostly what they had.
The tanker boots with the around the ankle straps looked good, but not heavy duty enough for me.

Let me tell you, you have no reason to have buyers remorse, as nice as the ELMC is, i would definitely rate LW higher.

Great analysis, Carlos. Based on the pictures I've seen of this jacket, it is shaped quite similar to my own two Mulholland jackets (yes, I did get the second one this week and will attempt to post today) along with the fact that the collar is quite similar. As much as it looks like is a V shaped jacket, it isn't actually made for V shaped people. It's made more for people like myself who, even with my recent weight loss, are not actually V shaped and have a bit of a drop, but still have relatively wide hips. Even with the waist looking slim on this jacket, it does actually flare out quite nicely if you have a wide hips/butt like I do which in fact makes it look quite flattering if you are built like me. If you are as V shaped as Carlos is, however, that effect doesn't work. It's a great looking jacket, though.

Carlos, thanks for the detailed review. It would certainly not work for me then, I prefer longer sleeves as well as the jacket pretty much covering my belt. Hard to tell all these things without someone actually going and trying one out. Plus, you can communicate about it well. Hum, that will be interesting to see who it does actually fit.

Hey Carlos, I guess this illustrates how different people’s experience with fit can be. I thought the fit was excellent, short in the body yes but within tolerance. But I am 6’2” and heavier than you and I tried a 46.

Agreed, but IMO you have a body type more similar to @dudewuttheheck, looking at the pics of your G1 it seems you don't have much drop from chest to waist, which is why i think it worked well on you.

I have a feeling it's styled after certain bike jackets of that period; it may be that the wider bottom is designed to sit well when the rider is on a motorcycle with a very upright seated position, like a Harley (c/f to the Lewis Supermonza, which was designed to be longer than the standard for those who rode crouched forward and low over the tank).

Being that they are clearly fashion jackets worn for style doing that seems all kind of wrong.

Same happens with my Aero Leather 50s Half Belt. It’s just huge in the bottom even fully cinched and basically has a bell shape so now that I lost weight it doesn’t work at all. And even before it was a big too wide.

Oh, I highly doubt anyone will ever actually wear them on a bike, but nonetheless the whole ELMC label seems to be largely designed around reproducing gear worn by motorcyclists in that post-war period - much like I very much doubt a single ELC Irvin hasever seen the inside of a Spitfire cockpit! ;)

The 50s Halfbelt is definitely cut to have more room in the body than earlier jackets. I wish I had your problem there.... ;)

Yep, have just thought almost the same. I mean, I'm on the same side too, also feel sometimes that some jackets are too much tapered down)

Won’t the clinch belts (buttons) on the highwaystar give a more fitted tapered look?

I'm thinking of ordering this jacket, maby not today but in the near future :) Therefore I've sent Eastman an email asking for some measurements. David replied the following:
ELMC HIGHWAY STAR SIZE 40 :

ARMPIT TO ARMPIT: 55cm

SHOULDER SEAM TO SEAM: 42.5cm

SLEEVE LENGTH FROM SHOULDER SEAM TO END OF CUFF: 63cm

BACK LENGTH FROM NAPE OF NECK SEAM TO BOTTOM OF WAISTBAND: 60cm

ELMC HIGHWAY STAR SIZE 42 :

ARMPIT TO ARMPIT: 57cm

SHOULDER SEAM TO SEAM: 44.5cm

SLEEVE LENGTH FROM SHOULDER SEAM TO END OF CUFF: 64cm

BACK LENGTH FROM NAPE OF NECK SEAM TO BOTTOM OF WAISTBAND: 61cm

ELMC HIGHWAY STAR SIZE 44 :

ARMPIT TO ARMPIT: 59.5cm

SHOULDER SEAM TO SEAM: 45.5cm

SLEEVE LENGTH FROM SHOULDER SEAM TO END OF CUFF: 65cm

BACK LENGTH FROM NAPE OF NECK SEAM TO BOTTOM OF WAISTBAND: 62cm

These seem more in line with the measurements of the roadstar, which is a perfect fit for me.

Im curious, is there anybody here who bought the jacket since it was introduced last year? I would really appreciate some fit pics. Can't find any pics online except for the ones from elmc's lookbook.

I haven't seen owners of the jacket on this forum, but believe @Carlos840 had the opportunity to try it on. I like how the jacket looks, quite a bit actually, but am pretty much set with this style of jacket.
