New Aero Jean Jacket 557XX Type III

I'm glad they finally fixed the pockets. I hated the old design. The lining make it a much more practical jacket. I still prefer the look and leather of the Lewis Leathers Western jacket in black horsehide, though.

Even though the Type III trucker-style jacket is identified with the 60's, it appears to have been around since at least the 1950's. I saw this denim version recently.

I think it is Vicenza. There seems to be mored emphasis on it as the 'showpiece' leather coming out of Aero these days (it has somewhat overtaken Horween CXL FQHH in that respect), and I know it is available in a much wider range of colours.

I was under the impression that the 60s was when the (obvious) hip pockets appeared, and the body got a touch longer too.

I can't wait till they go on the market. I would rather have one with a lighter lining than a blanket. Glad they went with the buttons. i want black overdyed on top of blue, so as it wears the blue comes through. Wonder if they could do that. Wonder how this would be in goat? Still looking for a lighter jacket.

The P to P looks ok, and the length will work too, but the shoulders are huge for me. However, I would pick up some length on the sleeves which are only 26", and I need 27". Not too sure what I think of buying a pre-distressed jacket. It looks pretty beat up, but I guess that's the idea.

I've worn the type 3 since the late 60s. I recall the price around $7.50 usd. In the early 70s I recall seeing, in a store, 2 Levis leather type 3 in my size. Seems to me they were a split hide of some sort with the smooth side in. Many times over a few months I would stop and try on each one. They were $60.00 and for all the disposable income I had at the time 60 dollars was a bunch of money. I didn't buy one. Seeing all of these is fun, thanks.

Thanks for the link to the Aero Midnight Blue. These photos make it look sort of day glow blue. However, ton312s sample looks more like black. Very interesting.

I would ask Carrie at Thurston Brothers to send you a sample of the midnight blue CXL. I have yet to see a photo that perfectly captures the color of this leather. Part of that is because it looks different depending on lighting as well as what colors happen to be near the jacket. My midnight blue Teamster usually looks more like a deep steely gray to me. Then, just when I have convinced myself that it is in fact a gray jacket and I have been duped, I will glance again and see a beautiful flash of navy blue that is gone as quickly as as it appeared. Truly a chameleon leather.

Got a beater Gap off the bay for $90 delivered. Cowhide, small tear in lining, and too big. But at least the sleeves are long enough.

The guy who delivered my Hercules from Johnson with a new #10 Zipper to my house (thanks guy) commented on how he liked this GAP brown cow hide Type 3. Surprised the heck out of me. Its pretty much a schemata as far as I'm concerned. But, I like it anyway.

I see all kinds of things online about people running their jackets through a washer and dryer, folding and unfolding in some leather jacket macramė. I hear about sand paper, and of course there is the pre-distressed jackets from the corporate world.

Strange stuff. I think we should start a thread "Show Us Your Beaters". I like beaters. Anyway, I like the concept of teacorp. Not crazy about this color or texture of this jacket. The texture may improve with use, although I was wondering has anyone ever tried doing a home distress, and/or dye job on their beater jacket.

This GAP "Vintage" cow hide jacket cost me $80 delivered. Much better than the new $300 plus Levi's buffalo I returned. So, I was thinking of messing with it. I have never liked the concept of distressed or faded, or acid washed etc.. Always figured buy it and let it do its' thing.

Has anyone ever tried doing a home overdye on a leather jacket? I'm not too crafty but what would happen if I tried to make this black over brown? What dye, technique, procedure would you recommend to mess with it. It's a beater.
