My First Impressions and Thoughts on the Double Helix Rider Unus

Hi everyone
after lurking and enjoying this forum for several months I finally gave in and bought a jacket I had been eyeing for a while. I initially planned to get a jacket around €400 but somehow ended up ordering a different one for €600 and now here I am with the Double Helix Rider Unus

The length is perfect and even after just one evening of wearing it the leather has already started to feel noticeably more flexible though it is still quite stiff. In comparison my bison leather jacket needed around four weeks to reach this stage

Fit-wise it is excellent. The only thing that bothers me is the cuff opening. It is a bit large for my slim wrists which leaves a slightly bitter aftertaste. I love jackets with a snug cuff so I am considering having an additional button sewn in by a tailor. I would rather avoid heavy alterations on this jacket and I think I already know some of your answers to that lol

Looking closer at the cuffs this seems a bit complicated. It would not be enough to simply cut the cuffs narrower because the sleeve itself would also need to be narrowed slightly to avoid folds. Just the thought of doing that makes me hesitant to alter the cuffs. An additional button might be a better solution. Any ideas or experience especially on the cuffs adjustments?

The cuff pics really aren’t a good visual representation because you’re showing your narrow wrist in the cuff but the cuff needs to be big enough for your hand to fit thru. I get not loving a bigger cuff. I have slim wrists too

I have a few jackets that have wide cuffs for me a have a thin wrist l.
on some of them I used a safety pin. Pull the cuff button to make it tighter ( if the opening for the button has a large opening ) then pin it through so the button doesn’t slide to the wider side
(God I know it sounds confusing )
With the pin you can lock the button into place on the tighter ended of the hole making the cuff smaller without a permanent modification.

@misho that's a beautiful lookin' jacket, well done! I agree with you that the cuffs seem a bit large, I would struggle in the exact same way if it was my jacket.

If you're in North America I'd recommend sending the jacket to Dena at Leather Care Specialists - she's fantastic and very knowledgable about leather, she's been doing it a long time. I've had several pieces I purchased pre-owned that needed new linings or zipper replacement and the experience has always been terrific.

Good luck, and again a terrific jacket you've scored, enjoy it.

Big fan of Unus rider too

The jacket features soft leather with a nice natural sheen.

What I really like about it is its versatility — it works perfectly with casual outfits, yet still looks refined enough for everyday work wear.

You´re probably right on the pics. I just don´t like the feeling of the cuffs being loose.

Well I figured what you mean but in that case I´d always have the pin inside but anyways the cuffs would still be too wide for my taste. But thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks but I´m in Germany so that won´t be an option.

The leather is insane. Never saw something like this before...it´s really amazing but that my first one with this kind of quality.

I´m wondering if you did alter your cuffs? Looks good on you.

The horsehide feels surprisingly soft and comfortable even from the first few wears. To me, it’s a great choice if you want to really experience proper, well-made leather craftsmanship.

The sleeves are still completely original. I wear size 42, and the sleeve fit is nicely trim – very typical of Japanese leather jackets, which I personally really like

In size 40 the circumference of the cuff is supposed to be 28cm. How much is it now, after shortening? I might do the same, looks quite nice.
