Coleman Hawkins recorded with the Mound City Blue Blowers, an all-star group led by Red McKenzie who played a comb with tissue paper, achieving an effect similar to a kazoo. "Hello Lola" 1929 (which has one of Glen Miller`s finest trombone solos) is amazing!!!!!!! :eusa_clap ... hope you all like it!!!! :D

Yes I was joking.

I thought you were very welcoming to someone who had trepidations about posting in this thread. Generally speaking a forum can be intimidating and unpredictable at times where some posters who speak to you one day stop the next.[huh] Besides there is a certain truth to what you say in my opinion: If a song was not posted(recorded) somewhere it would not be here. These guys are just not recording new stuff anymore.:)

I forget if this has been added or not. Yes? Sorry for the repeat. No? Then it's a travesty! Here it is:

"Doin' the Raccoon", George Olsen & His Music - 1928.

During the mid-1920s, raccoon-fur coats became the fad fashion-item TO HAVE. As the song suggests, they were very popular among the younger set and college/university-aged boys and girls. Since raccoons were (and are) considered pests, their transformation into winter coats was probably no bad thing.

So snap into it!:)

Since the lyrics are a bit hard to hear, I've typed out a transcription of them:

College men, knowledge men,
Do a dance called 'Raccoon',
It's the craze, nowadays,
And it will get you soon!

Buy a coat and try it,
I bet you'll be a riot,
It's so wild, learn to do it right now.

High brow, low brow, intermediate,
Make believe they're all collegiate, soon,
To do the 'Raccoon'!

Raccoon coats, don't care who's wearin' 'em,
Hallroom boys will all be sharin' 'em soon,
To do the 'Raccoon'!

Every day it's popularity gro-oo-ows!
It's the most important item in clo-oo-othes!
Ten bucks down, and though it scratches you,
Wear it 'til the sheriff catches you, soon,
To do the 'Raccoon'!

Oh, they wear them down at Princeton,
They share them up at Yale,
They eat in them at Harvard,
But they sleep in them in jail!

They score them at Ohio!
They're hocked at Notre Dame,
They carry 'em in California,
But they wear out just the same!

At Penn they're made of rabbit,
At Vasser, sex-appeal,
At Nebraska, made of airdale,
In Chicago, lined with steel!

From every college campus comes a cheer! (Oy-yoy!)
The season for the raccoon coat is here! (my boy!)

Rough guys, tough guys,
Men of dignity,
Join the raccoon coat fraternity, soon,
To do the Raccoon!

Rich man, poor man,
All have pride in 'em,
No-one knows who walks inside of them, soon,
To do the Raccoon!

Every day you'll have your downs and your ups,
Heigh-ho!
Every day those raccoon coats will have pups!
I know!

Get a girl, and start to hurry her,
Right downtown to some big furrier,
Soon,
To do the Raccoon!

Ra-ra, ra-ra-ra-raccoon!

Thank you Hadley! Who has not had something to apologize for, I know I have and I do now. We post and sometimes it gets mixed up. You, however, are as gracious as ever and my pleasure to know.:D

This is a nice tune as well...
