Modern "Grizzly" Jackets?

I think most of the options have been identified here - LW, Aero, Himmel, Goodwear, RMC, and there are probably a handful of the smaller Japanese labels doing them over there, never exported (a lot of the coolest Japanese stuff no matter what it is - clothes, guitars, watches.... never makes it out of Japan). I hadn't seen the Schott one before, that's probably the closest to mainstream I've ever seen this. Grizzlies just haven't been in mainstream fashion for a very long time indeed. Heck, you don't seem them much even in our circles.

I've had my eye on the Aero one for some time, in black. I'd love to see one fitted out with armouring for bike use - it'd obviously need a chest plate of some sort.

The SJC one could tempt me at the right price; I believe Simon's looking into doing a run of those in 2018/19. The brown one looks really nice.

I own an Aero and also a Steve Sellers example the same as casechoppers. Both are great. There seems to be two polarising schools of thought with grizzly's. The hair on hide and the fur fans. Personally I like the fur. The hair on hide look great when new but are susceptible to hair loss over time. Old ones tend to look terrible. Fur grizzly's seem to mellow like fine wine.

I agree. The hair on hide LW jacket looks great when new, but I wouldn't much fancy it when eventually the hair started to wear off. I imagine the hoh are easier to produce, though, as it's just a matter of using a different piece of hide for those panels, rather than the traditional furry ones where the fur panels are actually sewn in as part of the jacket with no leather layer behind them.

I'm seriously considering to order either a Thedi or Himel Grizzly jacket with black cowhair panels (black horsehide and black cowhair) as I really like this style. I'm just hesitant if I do have the "cochones" to wear it and if my wife (and daugther...."Daddy, are you a cow?" ) likes it. My favorite style is the Himel Wolverine but due to the high price I rather consider a Thedi (not sure if the cowhair and overall quality is equal/similar) but I've never seen a Himel or Thedi (black leather and black cowhair) in real life - any owners (I've seen @red devil s thread with his Thedi)??? Moreover I've read here that there is risk of cowhair loss over time. Is that correct? Another option would be LW's Grizzly but I haven't seen any fit pics of this jacket, too (just on their website). Thanks!

@Mich486 Thanks - I saw it end of last week - it is in my size but I prefer black leather and black fur even if I'm tempted to buy it.

You could pull off the Wolverine easy. Grizzlies I think are a bit much but for some reason the Wolverine type looks more wearable.

Thanks for your honest feedback - 'Grizzlies I think are a bit much' is also my biggest concern but as I'm looking for something special / unique but still wearable, I thought the black leather/black fur combo could work and still looking good and not too much....hopefully.

IMHO Grizzlies are easier to pull off than an Irvin or a very aggressive cross-zip as long as the fur doesn’t get excessively long.

The Himmel one looks ok, but gosh, they're usually terrifyingly bad- particularly with long fur. Let's not sugar coat it- this is a divisive item, and it will scare away the opposite sex.

A Himel Wolverine is a special jacket. If you can afford it, I say do it.

The Himel Wolverine is too expensive at the moment - that's why I'm hoping that Thedi offer similar/same quality at a hopefully lower price. I have to add approx 20% for VAT and small duty on the Himel Wolverine which makes it unaffordable...I have never seen a used one...I hope there are Thedi Grizzly owners here who can share their exerience.

No loss of hair, I was told I can use as roughly as the other leather jackets so no worries there.

You mention 3 very different grizzly:

- The LW is pretty much the classic grizzly pattern we all know but with cow hair panel
- The Himel is most likely a reproduction of a more unique model from the past (please correct me if wrong)
- The Thedi is a re-imagined version of the grizzly with his unique style, pretty much what he does for all his jackets

There is no point in going for a LW or a Thedi if it is the Himel you prefer, just save up and get your favourite one

Seconded. Always go for the jacket you REALLY want. In the long run it's cheaper than flipping jackets...

Thanks - good to know that there should be no loss of hair under normal wearing conditions. There are currently three real Pros for Thedi: 1st: I really like Theodoros, 2nd: Price is much lower and after the Centinela I told to myself that this was my last really expensive jacket (Thedi is expensive but still OK IMO), 3rd: Theodoros exactly knows my size, Himel would be a risk (happened to me in the past) and if it doesn't fit me properly, I would need to ship it back and pay tax+duty twice....if there were more who own a Thedi Grizzly, then it might be an easier decision. I also don't have any plans to go to Thessaloniki or Canada.....
