Master supply co leather jacket

Hey everybody, I got curious about Master Supply Co on the forum after having recently outgrown my original purchase from them and... I can't keep up with tge entirety of the threada right now but thought I'd at the very least share my experience.

For reference I hadn't any experience beyond some First Manufacturing (FMG) jackets that are stocked by a local leather & pawn shop which were affordable but hardly satisfying as far as fit goes. Just recently have I acquired a Lewis Leather (Memphis no. 723 in horsehide) which has been a grail of mine for years. So I don't know much beyond what I've read here but have always preferred a good fit over fits that simply 'work.' FMG 'worked.' Frankly Master Supply Co (MSC) 'worked.' Which at the time, for the price then, was worth noting.

I got my Widowmaker in February of 2021 and wore it damn near almost literally every day for close to four years. A couple which I had a bike only and rode for all but a couple weeks in winter. Rain or shine sometimes without a rain jacket. My initial impressions were that it was a solid jacket as far as weight goes and finish was comparable to the FMG which seems similar to another common budget brand Milwaukee Leather which are all I really see on Amazon or Canadian motorcycle parts retailers but there were definitely some design problems.

The biggest initial disappointment was the faux action back. Where there should have been extra material tucked away was in fact a sewn solid flap sharing a seam with the shoulder. For the size I got the sleeves were a bit short and may still be considering the fashion cut not having much of a crop (if I remember correctly their sleeves and overall length are about the same) but it's not like I really knew better at the time. The zippers got a little sticky after too much time in the rain but they never ceased to function. I had purchased their older generation buffalo leather Tombstone, with the double zips and red stitching, but was struggling to wear any of the "nice" clothes that I'd bought because of my job. I work in metal and the dirt, dust and rust finds its way everywhere I go. So I sold that barely worn but it sure did feel decent in the hand however without wear I can't say much to it's practicality so to give an unbiased opinion as it's been on my mind while preparing to retire the Widowmaker...

It served me very well. Four long and fast years. I think it could have four more but with someone who has a smaller chest and perhaps shorter arms. As much as I'd like to think the jacket shrunk the fact is I finally decided not to ride this winter and without the bike I didn't get out much and started cooking alot but I digress. I noticed the price jump as they continued evolving their catalogue and had damn near swore off of them and since getting myself a well established LL jacket which I fear ruining the beautiful bright red quilted lining of by riding to work in it. As such I've been studying measurements of my own and the available jackets on the used market hoping to obtain something of similar quality at a discounted price before ending up back on the Master Supply Co website. After some thought I decided I could afford the potential buyers regret on their latest Tombstone and watched the review video several times before ordering one myself.

The impression that I get is that whether it's worth the price to anyone here is irrelevant and it seems they're evolving for better or worse. The climbing price may or may not match they're evolution in quality and could be accounted for in operating costs/inflation, fashion as a brand name in that aspect, but perhaps quality too. It seems their shoulders are finally action-backed! Functionally! Even though I was put off them for sometime I was wearing my Widowmaker every single day and it held up. I think I got my money's worth and after my initial apprehension to pay the current price for their current offerings I respect the effort they're making. I'll miss the paisley liner but might make a post of my LL and MSC side by side when it arrives. Here is my tattered Widowmaker...

Coming in here very late to the party

I wouldn’t personally buy the Master Supply Co jacket but reviewed it bc so many folks looking to spend less money seem averse to buying used. I reviewed the Daytona 224 and returned it, they sent me a Daytona Reload for free to review. They do seem to send a lot of free jackets to folks with an Instagram or YouTube channel in the space.

The MSCo jacket was much better than the cheap Thursday jacket I reviewed. And I liked the Daytona Reload significantly more than the fast fading 224. But it’s not better to my preference than say a used Schott, Aero, Vanson, etc. So it’s basically a premium price over the “mall” jackets with a design you might like better.

If you like the MSCo design you can get something similar from Five Star for cheaper, but then you’re handling design yourself. If you want to offload that onto someone else and just go buy a jacket, that feels like what MSCo is offering.

The 1.5mm hide on the Daytona reload is thick but very very soft. It kinda wants to wrinkle rather than crease or roll. It vibes more like thick lambskin than a robust cowhide…so less durable than you may expect but comfortable. Like a sweatshirt that looks like leather jacket.
I greatly appreciate your insights!

So I ended up the jacket that wearever never showed. I will provide pictures and my thoughts on it. The leather is a natural undyed vegetable taned leather. It is almost bone white. The leather is thick but is extremely soft. It might be a function of vegetable tanned leather as this is my first experience with it but I don't think so as MrFrown had a similar experience with a different leather from Master Supply. I ordered the jacket with custom measurements which Master Supply does for free with the cavet that any custom order is a final sale. I provided the following spec for the jacket.
Chest 127cm
Shoulder 52cm
Length 69cm
Arm 66cm
Bottom 112cm
Here are pictures of the mesuments of the jacket.

They mostly did a great job of hitting my mesuments other than the chest. The jacket fits well. My main complaint is with patterning. The collar of the jacket is a bit higher than I am used to and sits a little weird for me. Other than that I am relatively happy with it. Here are some initial fit pics when it was new out of the box.

And here are some pictures of it from this morning after I wore it around the house a few days and sprayed some water on it and let it dry while wearing it.

I think the problem with the collar and the way it sits is pretty well demonstrated in the last photo. Its a little different than my other jackets. I'm hoping it settles down with time. Let me know if there are any other pics that any of you would like to see.

Also feel free to critique the jacket and the fit. I got interested in the jacket after Wearever made such a big scene over it and then never delivered on the review. I wanted a natural leather and couldn't find anything at this price point. I should have waited as Rugged West just dropped a natural leather jacket today... doh.

I was pleased with my Daytona Reload, I'm just a weird guy getting into hobbies. The best is what I like. I still have my MS just don't wear it with my Aero available. Simmons Bilt on the way.

I think the jacket looks terrific here, by the end of your pictures.

I suspect it's going to break in and patina really nicely for you.

I don't think it's so bad in your pictures. It's actually quite cool. However, I would prefer a jacket collar to a shirt collar. I'm curious to see how the colour will change.

Jacket fit looks great. Like the pairing with the cowboy hat.

Recently I've been bombarded by ads from Master Supply Co. They were not on my radar previously.

They have a new cross zip motorcycle jacket they call the Tombstone, and I happen to think that they really nailed the pattern. Their model they have wearing it happens to have a perfect fit, which is really helping sell the jacket.

Based on what I've learned so far, they are a mid tier brand, based in Toronto, Canada, but their jackets are made in Pakistan. Opinions on quality varies, with a balance of satisfied customers saying they are impressed, but more knowledgeable people here seem to be somewhat divided on their quality, leaning towards the the opinion that they are "ok" but somewhat overpriced. Comparable to the quality of Five Star, but higher price. They have only been around for 5 years.

The new model they are advertising is made from a veg tanned leather that is new to them. And they're using Talon zippers now.

The sense I'm getting from what I've been reading is that the new offering is a step up over their previous.

For a sub-$600 price point, I don't think it looks bad. I don't *need* it, but my interest is piqued. I'm wary of very cheap made in Pakistan jackets sold on the strength of stolen photos ripping off the real makers, but there are Pakistani leather goods made with high quality as well, and it looks like this is an example.

Over the past year or two I've been so repulsed by various aspects surrounding this brand that they have become the only brand that I actually "hate" and think that folks should not be buying or wearing their stuff and that the brand should get lost off the radar. I'm sure that such a strong emotional response is foolish and I'm not trying to judge or attack anyone personally, just sharing my thoughts. For me it's not enough for them to make a "decent product for the money", I've been convinced too thoroughly that they are the last brand (from well known ones) that I'd support with my money. Again, this is not aimed at any current or potential customers, just sharing the impression that I've picked up about this company.

One of the reasons I posted was to seek contrary opinions... What's your reason for disliking them? Is it the overall brand image? The made in Pakistan factor? Value for price? Are they not representing their product accurately? The quality of the actual product? Their customer service? Something else?

It sounds like you have rather strong opinion about them, yet you disclaim your opinion in a way to say that you don't hold it against anyone who feels differently or owns their products... Which is curious to me. It makes it seem like you're saying that you really don't like the company, because they just aren't your thing, but you don't hate their products on someone else, if that's their thing.

Still hate this pocket on what's supposed to be a perfecto lol
It's different, and I haven't ever seen another jacket with a coin pocket flap that short, I'll grant you.

But it doesn't bother me that it's short. I've seen different styles across hundreds of jackets, everything from triangle to square to home plate shaped, to pointed with slightly scalloped concave edges, to omitting the pocket entirely... The only one that ever really bothered me was one that was shaped like home plate, but was disproportionately too *long*.

I rarely use that pocket myself.

Talking more about the aesthetic than utility
The pocket just looks out of place to me for 2 reasons:
1) a random western motif which doesn't gel with the rest of the classic design
2) because of how short it is combined with the shape, it gives a dainty look to the jacket

Anyhow, just my opinion. Others may not find it a big deal.

@Guppy I appreciate you posting about this - always a pleasure to read your stuff! Not sure what you mean by "to seek contrary opinions" though, feel free to elaborate.
Here are some reasons (all very subjective and debatable obviously):

1 . Tasteless distressing and selling jackets that already make to look dirty. This does not vibe with me AT ALL, similar to how buying jeans with holes in them is just silly to me. I feel like they had more options in this regard in the past, maybe toned down by now, but you can still find them.
1752473610181.png

2 . The extremely cringe uber macho modeling / marketing again does not vibe well with me. Similar story with their marketing videos and product descriptions.
1752473073852.png

1752473321670.png

1752473563303.png

3 . I remember them (indirectly) ****ting on other makers / manufacturers like RW to promote their own stuff. Can't find examples now and maybe they removed the comments on IG.

4 . Sending "influencers" free jackets to promote their products.

5 . Advertising their stuff everywhere - I've seen ads on IG, FB, etc..

6 . This video by our own @Mrfrown also made me dislike them rather more than less:

Nice cherry on top - this clown praising them:
https://www.tiktok.com/video/7206887752724483333
I could go on but that's enough. Again - everyone can make up their own opinion, this is only mine.

Also quite a lot has been discussed here (thread now closed thanks to one very motivated MSC shill):
