Langlitz Leathers Padded Columbia in Goatskin -A Short Review

Recently, Langlitz has been getting a little more attention here in South Korea, with a few leather-focused YouTube channels featuring the brand. It reminded me of my 2007 Padded Columbia in black goatskin, which is still in my collection.

— a 2007 Padded Columbia in black goatskin, made during Langlitz’s 60th anniversary year.

These photos were originally taken for a review I posted on a Korean leather community, so I thought I’d share them here as well.

The goatskin is softer and more supple than the cowhide Langlitz jackets I own, while still having plenty of substance. After nearly twenty years, it has developed some very nice grain and sheen, especially around the padded shoulders and sleeves.

One detail I particularly like is the leather lace adjustment at the sides. Simple and functional, but very characteristic of Langlitz.

I also really like the smooth synthetic lining used in this jacket. Some Japanese repro jackets use wool linings for historical accuracy, and while I understand the appeal, I personally find wool adds a bit of resistance and can restrict movement. The smooth lining in the Langlitz makes the jacket much easier to move around in.

That’s probably part of the reason why, despite being a fairly substantial jacket, it doesn’t feel nearly as heavy when worn as you might expect. Once it’s on, the weight seems to disappear.

My only real regret is not having the mouton collar. I contacted Langlitz about adding one later and was told that if the jacket wasn’t originally set up for a mouton collar when it was made, the jacket itself would need to be sent back to Portland for the modification.

The fit is exactly where I like it — trim through the body, relatively short, and easy to move in.

It’s nice to see Langlitz becoming better known in Korea. Nearly twenty years on, this goatskin Padded Columbia still pretty much sums up what I like about Langlitz.

All very good points, especially regarding the well-dialed in fit & patterns. The lining also, make a large difference in the wearability and "live-with-it" nature of Langlitz leathers.

Absolutely. Comfort is really important to me, and the lining makes a surprisingly big difference in how a leather jacket feels and wears.
