Lost Worlds Rally in Black Horsehide – A Short Review

Hello everyone,


I thought I would share my Lost Worlds Rally.


I bought this jacket directly from Stuart at Lost Worlds. The Rally does not seem to appear very often, and I liked it because it looks quite different from the usual Perfecto or Buco-style cross-zips.

The wide chest flap, asymmetrical zipper, and quilted shoulders give it a very distinctive front. There is quite a lot going on, but the back is surprisingly simple and clean.


The black horsehide is very thick and firm, as you would expect from Lost Worlds. It feels heavier and denser than most of my other horsehide jackets, and it holds its shape rather than draping softly around the body. The stitching, snaps, and zippers all feel very solid.


The lining appears to be cupra, although I have not confirmed the exact material. It is smooth and makes the jacket easy to put on and take off.


I normally prefer my leather jackets fitted and fairly short, and I usually wear them over a T-shirt or a light shirt. The cropped length of the Rally works well with higher-rise denim.

The leather was naturally stiff at first, but the jacket is more wearable than it looks. It still feels substantial, but I do not find it overly restrictive during normal wear.


Lost Worlds leather also seems to change very slowly. Even after wearing it for a while, the jacket still looks quite similar to when I first received it. Sometimes it feels as though the jacket is breaking me in rather than the other way around.


It is not the lightest or easiest jacket to wear, but I like the unusual design and solid construction.

Bears a strong resemblance to the Langlitz "Death's Head" Cascade, which is highly prized in Japan... Looks like Stuart nailed the fit on this one. I wonder how these look unzipped, being so asymmetric. Does it even work open, or do you just unzip it halfway?

Thanks! I actually included a few photos of it worn open in the original post, though they may have been easy to miss. Personally, I think it works quite well unzipped despite the asymmetry, but wearing it partially zipped gives it the cleanest shape.

Thanks! It’s definitely a bold one, but that’s a big part of what I like about it.

I have an older LW A-2, and I agree with you to some extent. But the newer horsehide still feels tough to me.

I thought so too until I received my Lost Worlds Test a few weeks ago. I requested extra heavy horsehide, maybe that's why, but I assure you there is nothing pliable about it, it wears like a cardboard box. I believe he is using thinner 3.5 HH as standard now and only brings out the old super heavy stuff when people really insist, but it definitely is still there and unchanged..

Another perfect fit and the jacket looks much easier to wear and pull off in real-life than it would appear going by the websites stock pictures. Maybe that is just you though, not sure..
