Very nice indeed! Like the color on that jacket and for your region, the lighter weight leather may indeed be a huge benefit for more wearing time. We're having a rather mild winter, so I'm getting more wear time in the Aero's in general.

Thank you AeroFan_07! I think you may be right, in my region it only gets "really cold" a few days to a couple of weeks per year. Aside from that it seems to hover between 40-50 degrees throughout the winter. This jacket wears similar to a heavy cotton jacket like, say, a Carhartt or something. This makes it very easy to put on and to take off and with this weight and feel I am likely to wear it much more often. Like I said before, NOTHING that I have felt truly compares to the robust feeling and vintage look of CXL (they truly are the gold-standard for beauty), but they always feel like a weighted blanket or armor to me. Not so fun to wear.

I have heard that the darker leathers tend to lighten with use and the lighter shades tend to darken with use. It will be interesting for me to see how this jacket ages and breaks in. I plan to wait and to submit a mid and long term review of this jacket as I have not seen too much related to the jerky HH on here. It may help others to understand this leather better. There tends to be a lot of "I just got this jacket" posts, but I remember when I had my first CXL Sheene and how neat it was to post the 1+year review with photos of how it was breaking in. And on that jacket, I had submitted it to quite the abuse with 1. Showering in it. 2. wearing it to bed. 3. Commuting to and from work in the German spring and fall in rain, snow, wind, etc.

It turned out looking so darn cool, but it ended up shrinking on me, I think because I laid it on a German radiator to dry it off and the extreme direct heat must have had something to do with shrinking the arms and body length.

I am older and hopefully wiser now, so my plan with this one is to just wear it. I will not artificially expose it to abuse, but I will most definitely not baby her.

As I was wearing the jacket again today I was trying to think about how I could describe how the jacket feels. Something came to mind. It may not be completely accurate, but I would currently describe a new jerky HH jacket to feel like a broken-in CXL HH jacket. Does this make sense? I remember when I finally got my CXL jacket broken in (after ~ 2yrs) it began to drape better, while still feeling thick and substantial, and also began to have deep creases and a patina. This jacket seems to almost already be at that point.

The jerky HH is very pleasant to wear and it develops a very nice grain. All my CXL jackets have gone but the jerky is staying.

Same here. I wonder why the jerky doesn't get discussed/purchased more often? I thought I was "going out on a limb" with the jerky purchase, so it is nice to hear from others who have had good luck with the hide. I hear about Vicenza, CXL, Steer, Goat, etc., but I bet I could count on one hand the total number of reviews/posts that I have seen regarding jerky HH. Do you think it may be the shine that puts people off, the heavy grain, the weight, or something else?

I think the fact that it’s marketed as mid weight plays a big role. Also you can tell it’s not veg tanned as it doesn’t have that crispiness. Vicenza is also pushed much more aggressively.

Update:

It has been a little over two weeks since I received my Jerky HH Aero Sheene. I thought I would share my thoughts so far, along with some updated photos.

FIT:
The fit is perfect. It is buttery soft, easy to wear, and I have noticed no shrinking, discomfort, stiffness, or anything negative about the fit.

COLOR:
The color remains relatively unchanged. I would have thought there would have been some scratches, lightening at the creases, etc., but no noticeable change so far. This is somewhat disappointing as I think the lightening and the scratches is what gives a jacket patina and character.

LEATHER:
As mentioned above, no color change and no shine loss. I am not bragging as I would prefer both. The leather is grainy (I asked for grainy) and showing somewhat of a pebbled character to my eyes.

WARMTH:
Blocks 100% of wind, great weight, and may just be the warmest AERO that I have ever owned.

LINING:
The Alpaca lining doesn't itch my skin, but to date I have always worn a long sleeved button-down or sweater underneath. No t-shirts, yet.

SMELL:
The leather did not seem to have the strong wonderful smell of CXL right out of the box, but it seems as if it is keeping the smell much longer.

WATER RESISTANCE:
Water seems to bead up on this leather and not soak in or create dark spots. I would say extremely water resistant at present.

Looking forward to seeing this thing 3, 6, 9, and 12 months from now. Wondering how much, if any, it will have changed. Either this thing will look the same for 20+ years, or I would expect some indications after 12 months as to where she is headed as far as looks.

No. I have never had "hands on" a Vicenza leather jacket. I have, however, owned a Veg-tanned Thedi leather jacket and what I would say is that I would consider it "light weight" compared to the jerky HH. It was feather light and very soft. Two totally different leathers, to be sure. I almost chose Vicenza due to all of the positive early press, but the later reviews didn't seem as positive. So I chose a completely different hide. I was told in an elevator today "don't take this the wrong way, but your jacket smells really good". I almost LOLed!

I read all previous posts, and I agree that jerky HH is a great (perhaps underrated) leather.
I own a Bronco A2 in jerky HH, and I love the soft feel, compared to the feeling of stiffness (and poor comfort) that gives me the CXFQHH of my Premier Half Belt, after almost 5 year of wear.

I used to be quite active on TFL back in the days when I was researching and buying my first jacket. From there I bought, sold, traded, and bought more and more jackets looking for "just the right one". At this point I have spent a few thousand dollars and lost near the same in this search. While I still believe absolutely nothing looks as good as the CXL Horween, I just simply never found it comfortable. This jacket doesn't present like the CXL, but I'd say it holds its own with a great look, but the most important thing to me is that I am wearing it. Because it is comfortable, it doesn't just sit in the closet and collect dust. I plan to get more active on TFL again because there were always fun and interesting people and lots of great photos and such to view. Thank you again for your comments. It is this feedback that one is always looking for, I think, when we post photos. I don't want to just be made to feel good, but I am always really looking for the honest and transparent views from others. Have a wonderful weekend!
