Let’s get this straight. Beck was a New York brand and distributor, period.
Yes, this is common knowledge. They started in 1914 and were a motorcycle parts and accessories distributor and they were out of NY.

Why did you even bring that up? Did I say otherwise?

That does not make every jacket with a Beck label a New York‑made jacket.
Who said anything about NY?

I said that before the mid 30’s it’s suspected that Leathertogs made the Beck Northeaster Flying Togs jackets. After the mid 30’s, ALL Beck jackets were made by Schott until the late 70’s. That means that from the mid 60’s to the late 70’s Beck jackets were made by Schott in New Jersey, not New York.

Early Northeaster Flying Togs jackets were made by Leathertogs in Everett, Massachusetts, well before Schott ever partnered with Beck.

That’s always been the suspicion. A buddy of mine has been doing a 5 year long research project into Leathertogs and while he found proof in the form of an advertisement that Leathertogs made products for Beck (specifically the Beck Northeaster caps), there’s no definitive proof that Leatherogs made jackets for Beck. Just a very strong connection via that ad and that is also seen through comparing the jackets as well as the proximity between the two companies.

But as you know Beck was a large distributor and it’s possible they contracted multiple different companies to make products for them including the jackets. Based on original Leathertogs catalogs that a friend of mine owns, it’s suggested that Leathertogs was a small operation. Every single one of their jackets was custom made. Leathertogs had two locations, one in Everett and one in Malden. The Malden location is where the wholesale operation might have been where they made accessories for Beck.

I own multiple original Leathertogs jackets as well as multiple original Beck 333/444 jackets and it is my strong belief that LT did in fact make jackets for Beck. There are many similarities. But despite the ad and the similarities I can’t say in good faith that for 100% certainty LT made jackets for Beck unless there’s actual proof.

You’re saying it as if it’s fact. Where’s your proof?

Certainly, it’s possible the later Beck‑Schott relationship explains Beck‑labeled Perfectos and boxes, but it has nothing to do with the 1930s Northeaster Flying Togs.

Umm…yes it does. The Schott/Beck partnership started in the mid 30’s.

You’re talking about before that and again if you have proof besides Stu Clurman saying so on his website, I’d love to see it.

Saying “Northeaster Flying Togs is Beck and therefore New York made”

Again, who said New York made?!

You clearly had no clue that “Northeaster Flying Togs” was the name of the line of Beck jackets.

Saying Northeaster Flying Togs is Beck is like saying Perfecto is Schott!

Have you never seen an old Beck label? It’s right on the label man!

ALL of this is common knowledge.

The Schott book that Tanaka wrote has most of the information coming directly from Schott including that they partnered with Beck in the mid 30’s to take advantage of Beck’s distribution prowess via their catalog. Beck was a well known name for motorcycle parts and accessories back in those days.
