1 Outback Kodiak
1 Sunbody Fedora 3" Brim
1 Sunbody Fedora 2.5" Brim
1 Stetson Fargo

Let’s see, I’m doing this from memory…

Fur felt:
1 Stetson 7X Clear Beaver Open Road
1 Stetson 7x Clear Beaver Western, currently out for rehab
1 Stetson 3X marked Open Road
1 Stetson 3X not marked Open Road
1 VS custom OR clone
1 Stetson 4X Western, model/vintage unknown, my beater hat
1 Akubra Squatter
1 4X Resistol Western
1 5X Resistol Western
1 Resistol OR clone w/ 2.5 inch brim, my “stingy” brim
1 True Hatters custom Western w/bound brim and a Montana Peak
1 Stetson #1 Quality Western

Straws:
4 Sunbodys of various bashes and brims. Last Sunbody was their alligator palm with a cattleman crease that reminds of the Mexican straws I wore as a kid on the ranch in eastern Colorado. Was a sure sign of spring to go to town on Saturday and buy a new straw hat at J.C. Penney’s. Dunked in the horse trough and shaped to suit.

3 fedoras - Stetson Temple, Akubra Stylemaster & Federation III
2 Akubra country hats - Stockman, Cattleman
2 B!Wear newsboy caps
1 panama - Stetson Napa
1 western - Resistol XXX Beaver

That's 9, but I also still have a big box of hats from my teenage collecting phase back in the 60s/70s. (They're mostly two sizes too small for me now.) This includes a boater, Stetson derby, collapsable top hat, chef's toque, pith helmet, coonskin cap, tarboosh, beret, deerstalker, hardhat, safari hat, another newsboy cap, and two or three kaffiyehs. And probably a couple of others that I'm forgetting...

New To the Forum...Not to Hats

Four felt fedoras by Gary White. Three very old (circa 1978-1986) felt Grosvenor fedoras by Herbert Johnson from back when Herbert Johnson could still make a good hat. Four panamas from Milton Johnson in Santa Fe. Baseball caps for the beloved Baltimore Orioles (2) and revered Worcester Tornadoes (1), all 100% wool by New Era.

Embarrassed newb:

1 Bailey wool felt homburg (prior to getting an education in fine fur felt hats here) ... Anyone want it so I can find the same in a vintage or fur of some kind?.. I do say for wool it's a nice one.
1 Miller furfelt black fed black wide ribbon (ebay win a couple weeks ago)
1 Dobbs gray milan 2" brim w/ puggaree (ebay win, in the mail now.. crossing fingers)
1 Dunlap gray w/ black ribbon 2" fed (ebay win, in the mail now.. crossing fingers)
No other hats worth mentioning.

Future plans:

Starts with A and from across the pond.. Akubra Fed, Campdraft ... Will probably go for one in every color.
Maybe a nice wide brim vintage fed of some good condition
7 3/8 hats where I can find them :)

Babs, aka Embarrassed newb: No reason to be embarrassed for heaven's sake! You still have 4 more hats that 98% of the population. And I'd venture that there are plenty of Loungers who don't have any hats at all. It's not really a requirement.

Oh indeed. Plus I'll admit, I'm not a daily wearer to be sure.. But the new felt hats are making me long for winter. As much as I like my Subaru, Honda, Auburn, Deere and other such similar ball-caps, I'm retiring them for yard duty and t-ball with my son.

Thanks, Lefty, this certainly seems to be a congenial corner of the world!

I still store all of my photographs on 36mm X 24mm sheets of plastic, but I hope soon to figure out how to convert them to electric impulses, at which point I will post pictures. MY panamas are indeed beautiful and finely woven...some have been around longer than my wife. The Gary White fedoras, though, should be touched...dare I say caressed...as much as seen.

I'm with you on being a film guy. I've got an M7, 50mm f2 'cron, 90mm f/2 apo/asph 'cron, and 21mm f4 Voigtlander CS.

In the past year, I broke down and added a Nikon D80 with a great zoom lens so that this whole interweb thing could be more fun.

Gary White hats don't seem to get much discussion here which seems a little odd to me because of the high esteem Cavanagh edges have here and the great lamentations that arise because they aren't made anymore. The last time I checked Gary White's website he was offering several hats with Cavanagh edges. Do any of yours have Cavanagh edges and if so are they comparable to a "real" Cavanagh edge ?

Alas, no. I prefer a raw edge on my felts so I cannot comment on Gary's other edge treatments. However, I can say that he has great ribbons!

No one makes Cav edges anymore. In addition to making hats from new bodies, Gary offers custom hats made on old bodies with cav edges from hats he's stripped. Here are photos of my experience at his shop. (scroll down)
