Don't know what I was thinking, but it probably was something like "very cool, pity it's in black". These hats sometimes stick around, so who knows? Here's one I did bring though.
Milano homburg in brown. Not much to go on, because there's only a partial label. Italian made, but unclear by which manufacturer. The felt and finishing are excellent and the proportions are appealing with the brim at 6cm and the crown at 11,5cm. There's a wonderful warm reddish tone to the felt.

Stefan, great looking Homburg, shape and proportion wise plus those brown, red, auburn coloured over and undertones. Is it a "large" 57?

Not particularly large, Steve. Seems about true to size. Blocked a bit more round than usual.

Some from me as well that I haven't posted here.

Mallory homburg in dark blue (almost black).

Crown at 12.5cm at dent and brim at 6.2cm. Felt is very malleable and soft but also thick. One of my most warm hats for the Norwegian winter


Next, Cavanagh twenty homburg with thin brim binding, black

Condition is never worn. Crown at 12cm at dent and brim at 6.5cm. Wonderful proportions and style, love it!

Third one is a mystery to me. Bought at the local vintage market for a price I couldn't resist Monark black homburg made (imported?) for the Norwegian market and sold in Oslo.

Crown at 11.5cm at dent and brim at 5.5cm. Condition is never worn and felt surprisingly nice and dence. Any ideas about the brand ?

Well I finally got my Homburg Nation membership card. I posted this on the New Hats thread, but was waiting until I had more time to post the details here.

Cavanagh from early to mid 50’s. Ribbon was torn and the sweat is a little fragile, but the felt is immaculate after cleaning. I conditioned the sweat with Neatsfoot Oil and it looks fine now. I’ve removed the ribbon and have a vintage stock replacement on order. It also has some contrasting stitching on the brim that I like.

I also found some info on the store it was purchased from - Malmstedt in Minneapolis, MN. Photos from 1902 of Nicollet Ave at Fourth St. Paper from 1903. I haven’t found anything later, so I’m not sure how long they were there.

Thanks Tim and welcome to the nation ! Great first hommie and you wear it very well! I am sure you will find out soon that homburgs can also be quite versatile as well and match many outfits even if they feel at home with a suit and tie

Compared to my Cav I see the different brim binding but I am also wondering what other things could justify the 5$ difference they had back in the days.

Looking forward to seeing how this will turn out after you finish with it.

Your Cavanagh appears to be from the same time frame according to the liner. Do you have any pictures of labels under the sweat for comparison ?

That sounds like the perfect occasion for a homburg to be! Looking forward to seeing the complete outfit then I always wear myself one when in opera or concert

Indeed same period, difficult to judge felt differences from pics but here are the labels behind the sweatband of mine

Thanks, great info. So yours is on a 5064 block, and mine a 5364. The price sticker is different as well. I'll have to do some research.....

Breiter München hat store (still in business today).

Steve, Thank you! What is funny is the Gotisches Haus Hat Museum Bad Homburg thought the maker was Hellings Bonn which I told them was actually a hat shop and P. & C. Habig Wien was the hat company that made the hat.
