GENTLEMEN! My God, the response, I am so sorry I didn't check this earlier! In my (poor) defense, I have been traveling a ton, and for whatever reason, this site can be super buggy for me if I am not on decent wifi.

Plus I tried roughly the same post on WUS and TRF, where I am a pretty well-known cat, and the response was abject disinterest, lol.

if this thread is actually a clandestine social experiment.

The social experiment is what Hermes wants from the consumer. You can't even go to the shop without an appointment. Then you have to spend a certain amount of money, to prove that you deserve to buy their purse. If they decide that you are the right buyer, then you will get an offer to buy. Some people could go on forever, buying other things in the store, spending thousands of dollars; and not get an offer to buy.

A more mischievous person would simply steal the purse. Look for someone walking down the street with it, then snatch it.


Almost as crazy as sending a drawing of your foot, then waiting a year and a half, to get an overpriced boot which might not fit.

I want to be clear about something with regards to pricing on Hermès stuff...

I loathe new guys who swing by these forums with a jacket we all know they just picked up for x amount, trying to flip it for double. Or guys selling a limited drop at an astronomical price. That said, the Hermès market for getting a bag right now (much like the Rolex market, as my WIS peeps understand) is almost entirely private rather than in-store, and the values are what they are.

There is a justification for this... infuriatingly, women often have to drop a bunch on stupid things they don't want, like scarves or keychains or belts, all while cultivating a "relationship" with an SA, before they can buy a bag... sometimes any bag. Like Rolex, some people do get lucky, but mostly it's a slow grind just to a less desirable bag, then maybe a more desirable one, and on and on, until eventually, usually years later, the holy grail of a Birkin or Kelly is offered.

So with all this in mind, the intent here is to beat the often outrageously overpriced professional resellers, but the bags are still going to be more than retail, just insomuch as they represent not just their original cost, but also all the other crap my wife had to buy to get them. Your wife will know exactly what I'm talking about if she's into the Hermès game.

And honestly... if she's not into the Hermès game... run. Don't tell her about this post. Save her sanity, lol.

But if she's already been turned by the great French leather vampire, then there may be some nice deals here on offer to feed her insatiable bag lust, comparative to what the market is currently demanding.

The worst part of the game is that you actually have to buy from Hermes. Just like Amazon, you need an account. They have a customer profile, with records of sales. And the sales associates have to know you. That's why people try to cultivate relationships with them. I have seen randomly sending flowers to a store, taking the sales person to lunch, lavish gifts during the holidays, remembering their birthdays and anniversaries with "trinkets" from Tiffany & Co......... please don't ask me if I ever slept with one to get a bag for my girlfriend.



It's not just girls with purses. I know a guy who wants to buy a car. A car from Ford! Obviously, one of the things that they are looking for, is someone who already owns one of their other high performance models. Just like the purse people, they want to see how much you've already spent with them. They don't want their cars to get into the hands of someone who is a "Chevy Guy". He had to submit a video explaining himself, how he would be best to represent the brand via his ownership, and why he was a fit buyer. He then went around the country to different events where he tried to rub elbows with Ford reps, cozy up to them, buy them lapdances, and whatever else it took to get on their good side. That was just to get on the list, for a chance to have his name entered into a lottery. All lottery entrants would obviously be pre-qualified as people fit to be seen driving the car. It's a FORD!

Oh come on, that's a ridiculous statement.

I mean, bread and OJ, sure... but bacon is a quota product itself. Better add some potatoes to that cart if you want to be considered for bacon. Once you've extended your bacon purchases for awhile, then maybe we can talk about eggs.

And don't you dare shop at another Costco location. Only your purchases at this Costco count toward the bacon here.
