Hi everyone,

I am putting up for sale a beautiful A2 flight jacket made by The Real McCoy's New Zealand (RMNZ).

I purchased this jacket a while ago for the same price I am asking now. Since I already own two A2 jackets (from RMC Japan and Aero) that get all the wear, I haven’t worn this one at all, so it’s time to pass it on.

About the Brand & Details:
  • For those unfamiliar with RMNZ: RMNZ was part of RMC and produced for the japanese market in New Zealand. So, absolute top-tier reproduction quality. Later known as "The Few"
  • This jacket is a highly accurate repro, featuring an authentic pigmented finish exactly like the original WWII A-2 jackets.
  • Finding an RMNZ A-2 of this caliber and in this pristine state is becoming incredibly rare.
Condition:
  • Top collector's condition: The jacket was very rarely worn by the previous owner and shows barely any signs of wear. See pictures ;-)
Sizing & Fit:
  • Tagged Size: 50, but actual Fit: 44 or 46 (nowadays RMC Japan, Aero, Eastman)
  • Please be aware that RMNZ sizing can be quite misleading.
  • Please refer to the photos for the exact measurements.
Shipping, Payment & Viewing:

  • Location: I am based in southern Germany. If you are local, you are more than welcome to inspect the jacket in person before making a purchase.
  • Shipping & Customs: I prefer shipping within Germany. I do offer worldwide shipping, but please note that you will be strictly responsible for handling any customs duties or import taxes.
  • Payment & Buyer Protection: I am happy to offer buyer protection for shipments within Germany and the EU, provided you are an established forum member with a good reputation. Please note: Unfortunately, I cannot offer buyer protection for shipments outside of the EU. Because of this lack of protection (and added customs fees), I realize worldwide shipping will probably not be a viable option for many of you, but I still want to put it out there just in case.
  • Alternative Platform: The jacket can also be purchased via eBay or Kleinanzeigen if you prefer that route to save on buyer fees.
Price: 950€ . I am open to a fair and realistic offer, though the price is only minimally negotiable.
That is exactly what I paid for it myself. For context, my latest RMC Japan jacket cost me double this amount (albeit brand new).

Feel free to ask questions.

Is this made of goat leather? Can you show some more pictures of the lining? Does it have an inside pocket? Thanks.

I will gladly provide more photos by the end of the week once I am back home. For now, please find attached a photo of the label that I still had on my phone, which I couldn't upload earlier due to the image limit.

According to the previous owner, the jacket is made of horsehide. However, I cannot confirm this with 100% certainty, as it is not explicitly stated anywhere on the jacket. Judging by its suppleness, it feels a bit like goatskin, as it is significantly softer than my RMC Japan A-2s. Then again, horsehide can vary widely in texture, from completely smooth to very grainy. On the other hand, goatskin typically exhibits an even finer grain structure than what can be seen here. Ultimately, it is quite difficult to determine definitively, especially since the pigment finish obscures the natural leather characteristics to some extent.

Speaking of the finish, RMNZ was highly dedicated to period-correct reproductions. Therefore, the leather features this historically accurate pigment finish, and the jacket does not have an inside pocket, staying true to the original WWII A-2 specs.

As requested, please find attached a few photos of the lining. As you can see, it is in very good condition with no holes, tears, or similar issues. Naturally, there are some minimal signs of wear, for instance around the collar area, but overall it looks great.

Furthermore, I spoke with a friend about the leather, and we are now quite confident that the jacket is horsehide (as stated by the previous owner). It is just not the stiff like horsehide you often get with A-2 jackets from RMC Japan. Instead, it is a much softer and more pliable hide, somewhat comparable to the feel of Vicenza horsehide.

This conclusion also makes perfect sense from a historical perspective. The original WWII Monarch contract (as indicated by the label) was made from horsehide. Given how strictly dedicated RMNZ was to historical accuracy, it is logical that they stuck to horsehide for this specific contract to stay true to the original
