Help with Schott 618 Authenticity Check

Hi everyone,

I recently picked up a Schott Perfecto 618 and was hoping to get a second opinion on its authenticity. It has the main “Made in USA” label and a white pocket tag with size and production info, but there’s no “Crafted with Pride in USA” flag tag inside.

From what I’ve read, that tag might not appear on all newer models — but just to be sure, I’d really appreciate any feedback from those more experienced.

Photos below — thanks in advance for your help!

Obviously whoever made that jacket was going through the motions. Once they finished it, they didn't even recognize what they made anymore. They took a long look at their pile of "Crafted with Pride in USA" tags and sighed... not today.

Honestly, the Perfecto label and Lot/Bndl tag should be enough. I'm not sure how consistently they even use that other tag.

I like the quality, but the cut is… I don’t know, just not quite right. That’s why I was wondering — it’s supposed to be this modern classic, right? I’d love to get a short Vanson C2 instead, but finding one in Europe, at a reasonable price and in a size that fits someone over 6 feet, is pretty much impossible.

It is authentic but are you honestly so unimpressed with the quality of the jacket that you have to question its authenticity?

It's worth keeping an eye on Vinted, that's where I got mine.

Thanks a lot for the links — I really appreciate you taking the time to share those! Definitely worth keeping an eye on Vinted, as you say. Some interesting listings there, though when I see something like 800 EUR for a used jacket, I can’t help but note that a brand-new C2 from Vanson direct currently goes for $769. Still, good to know there are options out there — cheers again!

Some cheaper ones pop up every now and then, mine was 500 and pretty much like new.
I don't know where you are in the EU but over here you have to add about 30% in VAT and duties so those $769 quickly becomes 1k, so you have to factor that in as well.
If you're not in a hurry one will eventually show up either here in the classifieds or on one of those marketplaces.

I understand.

I'm guessing you hadn't ever handled a Schott knockoff but if you had, you really wouldn't have any doubt. Fakes of brands that make quality clothes are very, very obvious and fake Schott jackets are in the range of a generic diagonal zip jacket from India or Pakistan at best. In short there isn't a good one so you don't have to worry about it.

As for the cut... Perhaps the size or the jacket itself doesn't work for you. It happens.

That C2 for 800 euro is different from the new ones - the CW hide is amazing if it is from the 90s. Looks to be very thick from the sleeve pics. The price is too much though. I recently paid $320 for mine (from 1997), albeit in the US. You can get them from Japan for $400-500.

You didn't tell us your measurements, but I started with Schott and moved over to Vanson. Schott just didn't taper like a Vanson (I'm 5'10", 40", 30", 165). Just about every Vanson fits me well, but the 618 and 641 were just kinda wonky. I had no problems with the quality of Schott.

Yes, that’s exactly the kind of jacket I’ve been looking for too — short in the body, long sleeves, a belt at the bottom (not halfway up the torso like on some of the newer models — even Vanson seems to have raised the belt position lately), and those big lapels. The 320 sounds amazing. I’m one of those unfortunate Eastern Europeans who’ve always loved vintage Americana but never really had access to it.

If you have any advice on how to buy Vanson jackets from Japan, I’d be really grateful. I checked eBay, but most of the listings seem to be for smaller sizes. I’m 6'3" and honestly don’t mind if the body is quite short — that’s actually something I like.

Also just wanted to say — this forum is great. People have already shared so much helpful information with me, even though I’ve only just joined. It really makes a difference!
