Golden Age experience in Los Angeles?

Where does one go today, other than Long Beach and the QM to 'experience' a bit of the Golden Age in Los Angeles?

There's Musso & Frank's, and the Pig 'n' Whistle, all Grauman's theatres and such on Hollywood Boulevard, but what else is there? What's a 'must see'/do list for a visitor with limited time and limited budget? Actually, forget the budget, but remember the time.

Thanks in advance! Maybe these could be done for other cities too, like a different thread for New York and Chicago, et cetera. Might make a good article for Classic Style Magazine as well (or has it been done and I just skimmed?)

With a little digging you should be able to come up with some cool architecture in the LA area and there is a tour of the best of the neon signage periodically. There are a couple of books with art deco in LA.

6th street in San Pedro has a nice feeling and is home to the Warner Grand Theater which is 1 of 3 in Los Angeles on the historic list. and Just across the street is the Oldest running Bookstore in Los Angeles.

Also in that area are a number of historic Places, such as Warehouse #1 on the docks.


The ss lane Victory ship does tours which is really nice if you've never done it before...

Go to the bradbury bldg. sooner or later. The UCLA Library is quite a sight as well. The merry go round on the santa monica pier was the merry go round in the sting, and it is old.

If you walk around 7th Street and surrounding streets like Broadway Ave in Downtown LA, you'll be surrounded by older buildings.

Union Station is a very good call - plus that and the Bradbury were used in "Bladerunner", which is still very 'noir'. These are all great suggestions - keep them coming!
