Going Atomic With Dalton

It's nice when the wife sez "Wow!" I'm gonna say WOW too! Is it my size now?

Your size is my size, so yeah. I had mixed results with resizing the three 7 1/8s up. That blue Waverly fits like a glove now. The Dalt-o-Liner (TommyK named it) is a little snug, but conforms pretty well after a short wear. The sage one is somewhere in between. The tan one is a 7 1/4, and Mr. Miller professionally resized the OR clone from 7 3/8 to 7 1/4.

Of course, you've mentioned you like yours a little roomy, so YMMV.

I did some long-desired work on the unlined Dalton posted above (#28) yesterday. I'm not a big fan of felt ribbons, and given this one was a bit moth-eaten as well, I had been planning to switch it out for several months. I even had the ribbon measured and curled, sitting in the box with the hat since I put it away for the winter. Yesterday, I got to work. The new ribbon is 1" vintage grosgrain, listed as "Beige." I modeled the simple design off of my Playboys.

Jim, that looks great! I'm later than Bob to this party... I never realized you were such a good hand at restoring hats. Really nice work!

I'm enjoying this thread in it's entirety, savoring it like a fine wine. I stopped short when I saw this post! Beautiful work Jim, the ribbon work is like new. I'm impressed. Now back to the show...

Here’s the Dalton I posted on What r u Wearing last night. 2.5” brim about 4 3/8” to the pinch. Sweat has been replaced and there are only the standard reorder tag and union label under it.

I also have a Homburg I’ll post in the next couple of days.
It seems I read Dalton went out of business in the late 40s so all their hats predate that?

Excellent hat, thanks for updating the thread. A bit different reorder tag than I've seen before.

There is an article posted on the first page that indicates the company's assets, including the name, were sold off in 1952. While I believe mine are post-war, I also think they're from the 1945-50 range. I have seen Daltons that look like later 50s, or even 60s (smaller crowns, shorter brims, that sort of thing). However, yours is definitely out of the original shop.

Did you replace the sweatband?

I did not replace it, a previous owner did. I wish I had the old sweat but, unfortunately, it is long gone.
