Here are a couple pre WWI postcards of J. Hückel´s Söhne k.u.k. Hof-Hutfabrik Neutitschein, Austria (today TONAK Nový Jičín, Czech Republic).

This one (side view) in German.

I would highly recommend a visit if you ever find yourself in Northern Moravia. Novy Jicin (a beautiful town) had a few hat famous factories such as A. Peschel and Brüder Böhm but only JHS (now TONAK) survived.

Don't know if I'll ever be in that neck of the woods, but I would enjoy it.

Thanks for the tip ... :yo:

This what is looks like today (April 2011). Most of the buildings in the post cards are still present. This was the largest felt hat factory (felt production to finished hat) in Europe and most likely the largest (definitely the oldest) in the world today.

This is the original factory building that goes back to the mid 1860s. Finishing and admin tasks are done in the building today. You can see this building in the first postcard. It's the catercorner white building in the center of the factory complex.

Villa Hückel and other Hückel houses opposite the factory. You can see the first three houses in the second post card.

This is the A. Peschel factory site and family villas. The factory was converted to some other purpose after WWII and is being torn down to build a shopping center.

I was told this building once housed the Brüder Böhm mechanized hat machine business (they also made felt bodies and finished hats at a different location).

Today arrived, an old Wegener Fedora. Very dusty and with floppy felt.
Unlined. From this Old Wegener Logo not much visible.
The color should be a dark blue but it is a Black with gray ribbon.
Wide-brimmed 2-3/4 and high in the front 4-3/4 with bash.

Out of the Box:

After brushing and steam: It is a black beauty, is my opinion. The felt again stiff and strong

Manfred, EXCELLENT find. After some great work, the hat looks brand new. I love the deep flange on the hat. Your hat has a nice feature that seemed to be present on a lot of vintage hats with higher flanges, the higher cupped flange in back and the flat front. Looks gorgeous. :eusa_clap:eusa_clap
