No sense in beating a dead horse here to say I agree with everyone 100%. But I do want to amplify the appreciation of the mods/admins here. The reason this is THE Leather Jacket place is because of the members and mods/admins. You guys are fantastic, you have made this feel like a home for us, we consider one another friends, and its because of how youve allowed TFL to grow, evolve and moderate whats allowed. You guys deserve a round of applause, and then a second round for the members here being able to have healthy debate and exchange while keeping it classy. This is the best and only forum Im an actual member of. I glance at the other places from time to time, but they cant hold a candle to this place.

Yeah, but as others mentioned, it’s gone from my rotation of Outerwear / General Attire (Engineer boots, watches, native jewelry) / Classifieds / Outerwear / Outerwear, etc.

**Edit to add my appreciation for the Mods as well...I disagree with some of the edits, but am thankful for the work you guys put into the Lounge!

Edward,

The Outerwear Section of TFL is the premier Outerwear forum on the internet, bar none. It is a tremendous community and an invaluable resource for outerwear enthusiasts worldwide.

The majority of the currently active Outerwear participants did not discover the Outerwear Section because of a general interest in the "Golden Era" or through the broader TFL forums rooted in the Golden Era. Rather, most of us came to the Outerwear Section solely and exclusively because of our interest in Outerwear. We were scouring the internet for information regarding jackets and we found the Outerwear Section. Outerwear is our commonality.

There are MANY active participants in the Outerwear Section of TFL -- me included -- who do not read any other parts of TFL (with the singular exception of the Classifieds). The other sections of TFL simply do not interest us. Therefore, we limit our participation to the Outerwear Section (and Classifieds).

When you merge Outerwear threads into pre-existing threads located elsewhere within TFL, the result is that the Outerwear members that originally started the Outerwear thread, and who do not read the other portions of TFL, cease to participate in the merged thread. We are functionally deprived of the original Outerwear thread because it is now buried within another section of TFL dominated by discussions that do not interest us.

This weekend, I started a new thread titled "JACKETS and pets." Apparently, there is already a thread elsewhere on TFL for pets -- NOT JACKETS and pets -- rather, just pets. Nevertheless, the Moderators merged the Outerwear JACKETS and pets thread with the pre-existing thread elsewhere on TFL. Now, the Outerwear JACKETS and pets thread has lost its connection to JACKETS and is part of a generic pets thread. Moreover, the merged thread is buried within a section of TFL dominated by discussions that do not interest me or many other Outerwear participants, and I strongly suspect that many Outerwear participants (me included) will never participate again. The Outerwear section has been deprived of a thread expressly related to JACKETS because it overlapped with a non-jacket thread elsewhere on TFL. That is very disappointing. I sent you a PM requesting that you reconsider the issue.

This is not the first time this has happened. Years ago, I started a thread in the Outerwear Section titled "What Jacket Are You Wearing Today" ("WJAYWT"). Shortly thereafter, a moderator deemed the Outerwear thread duplicative of a pre-existing thread elsewhere on TFL titled "What Are You Wearing Today" ("WAYWT") and merged the new Outerwear thread with the pre-existing thread, even though the Outerwear thread was expressly focused on JACKETS. A year later, someone else started the IDENTICAL WJAYWT thread in the Outerwear section. However, this time around, the Moderators allowed the thread to remain and did not merge it with the pre-existing WAYWT thread. I applaud the decision, but the disparate treatment of the two identical threads was never explained to me.

Now, you are contemplating merging the Footwear thread in the Outerwear section with one of the pre-existing footwear threads elsewhere on TFL (e.g., https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/show-us-your-shoes.4300/ and https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/engineer-boots-harness-boots.43530/ ). I respectfully request that you refrain from merging the threads. If you do merge, the connection to Outerwear will be lost and many Outerwear participants -- me included -- will cease to participate. I/we will not hunt and peck for the merged thread buried within a section of TFL dominated by discussions that do not interest me/us.

There are many other Outerwear threads that are potentially subject to similar merger with arguably duplicative threads elsewhere on TFL. The overlap is inevitable.

I understand the Moderators' desire to promote cross-participation. However, the fact remains that the Outerwear Section is populated primarily by people interested in Outerwear, as opposed to the Golden Era in general. When you deprive the Outerwear section of threads which partially overlap with other sections of TFL, you diminish the quality of the premier Outerwear forum on the interest. I urge the Moderators to allow the Outerwear Section to continue to thrive on its own, without stripping away threads through merger. Those who also want to read the other sections of TFL will do so. There will always be some cross-participation. However, moving Outerwear threads to other sections of TFL will not effectively promote cross-participation and, instead, will simply diminish the Outerwear Section.

Thank you for your consideration.
I agree with this 100%
Last week a thread was started regarding belts. What a cool idea I thought, as I perused it and thought about adding some shots of my own western belts.
In no time at all though the thread had been merged with an existing one in the General attire section. Like Super, I don’t look at that part of the lounge and therefore that is a thread I will likely never see again.
I understand that the moderators are simply trying to maintain an organized, logical forum and I applaud their efforts. I agree with Super though that it would be nice to keep the threads that start here in the outerwear section here in the outerwear section.

Oh yeah, this, absolutely. My last post here may have came off as a criticism while it honestly wasn't. TFL is moderated in an absolutely fantastic way, some of the best I've seen, to such extent that you don't even realize there's anything going on behind the scenes - and it does. I've moderated a relatively large forum back in the very early 2000's and there's a lot to do every day. Even though we're all very polite here, I've seen people getting banned on other forums, simply for not agreeing with some of the moderators and it's a surprisingly common practice so yeah, I think mods/admins here are a major reason why so many people frequent this place - and why this place became The Outerwear forum on the internet, surpassing it's original Golden Age theme.

So I'm neither complaining nor thinking anything should be changed. :) I still believe boots belong to Outerwear but that's my view on the matter, as I'm sure you guys have yours and frankly, I'm happy either way, to just have a place like this to belong to. So yeah, thank y'all for a fantastic job you guys do.

Didnt think there was anything wrong with your post. the beating a dead horse comment was directed at myself. I agree 100% with everyone, so didnt feel the need to add anything more cause you all summed it up!

Does someone of you guys know the leather thickness /heaviness difference between Clinch Horsebutt - Attractions Horsebutt and Clinch Latigo leather? I suppose Clinch and Attractions use the same thickness/heaviness and the Latigo leather is even thicker/heavier, right?
Thanks, Robbie
I have Clinch engineers in horsehide and veg tanned cowhide and I had them in Latigo and I have Attractions horsebutt.

In my experience, the Clinch Latigo engineers were the boots with the thickest leather I have ever owned. In fact, they are so thick that they fit a half size smaller than my other Clinch engineers. The straps on my Attractions are definitely thicker than on my Clinch HH engineers, but the actual leather on the shaft feels similar in thickness and stiffness. The Attractions feel stiffer now, but they are also much newer so I think that comes into play.

Definitely the Latigo was much thicker.

Agree that the Clinch Latigo is thicker than Attractions HB. However HB used by Attractions vary greatly in stiffness. Some batches are ultra stiff.

I believe superfluous makes a good point. I do understand the disability of keeping posting to existing threads if the topic has already being discussed. I thought the Whites boot tread belongs in the general attire forum prior to the mods moving it over. When topics like boots and dogs? are combined with jackets it makes for interesting posts that many of us on the outerwear forum would not see and be able to enjoy. It's certainly not my call and I have no hard-line position either way just I liked the footwear with jacket tread and had looked forward to seeing the dogs with members who participate on the outerwear forum.

Now that I through of the manner further and reviewed the some of many pet treads over at the observation bar. Far as moving the footwear with jacket tread of to the general attire forum makes sense to me. That is where boots and shoes are discussed. If I am interested in boot discussions, makes sense to go there. The jacket and (pet /dog ) thread is a different manner for me. I would like to see the members who I am interacting with on the outerwear forum with their pets when I am on the outerwear forum not have to hunt and view multiple pet pictures connected to people I do not know.
Pets are more personal than boots, maybe this why I would like to keep the pet to people I know form the outerwear forum connection.

These are nice, congrats! You at least need a pair of brown boots as well. And suede? And maybe russet :p
You are right, brother. I just saw Viberg Service Boots in natural kangaroo....wow. Just wow. Luckily for my wallet it was some kind of collab, long sold out, but wow, what a boot.
