Finds and Deals - Leather Jacket Edition

Glad to see you found another target. I've literally bought 500 dollar items that I thought were originals that turned out to be reproductions. I've thrown out jackets that I gambled on that weren't even worth selling. Sometimes when I get a good deal I do like to recoup some of my money, two years later. Hope that's okay with you. The hobby costs me just as much as anyone who spends too much on jackets.

Further - I gamble on sizing all the time. I currently own a Monarch that on paper is 3 sizes too big for me, and yet it suits me perfectly well. I knew it was underpriced, I truly don't know what top dollar items sell for as I do not engage in those huge auctions. To my eye, it's an old jacket that's about $1,500 dollars more than what an old leather jacket should cost in this life.

Further again - maybe I'll lose money on this fantastic old Guidemaster, after eBay fees. It remains to be seen. Wouldn't be close to the first time I've done that.

I seem to recall you being harsh on a new member that was trying to get information on a Buco and accused him of flipping.

I also remember in the “bad actors” thread that you had an issue with people taking advantage of our knowledge.

You used to reach out to me all the time “taking advantage” of my experience and knowledge and I generously gave it to you, as I did with that new member.

You didn’t know anything so you lost a lot of money initially. That’s just part of the game. Now that you’ve learned from me and others you consistently try and make a profit, which is fine, but you’re acting as if you don’t.

I don’t have an issue with making a profit, it’s the hypocrisy that gets to me.

PS, that Monarch you have was completely taken apart and restitched back together by Dave Sheely. I might be wrong, but I believe the listing you bought it from mentioned that and your listing does not. Dave’s original listing most definitely did. Either way, you should update your listing.

PPS, that Beck would have went for anywhere from $3k-$4k. A great profit indeed.

Too long I didn’t reach anything but monarch. I bought the monarch based off 2 instagram stories from someone else off here. There was no listing. I also decided I’m keeping the monarch for now.

You and a select other members have a lot of time and money invested in it, I hunt for all sorts of stuff. Leather jackets interest me to a degree and a finite end. I do not know the market price of many jackets. I spend the money when it feels right.

Keep on acting aloof. Your listings and pricing suggests otherwise.

I think you know that a seller can ask whatever they want for an item, ultimately it takes a buyer to make a sale, and usually that sale is within what most people would spend for that item.

I remember that too, lots of animosity. Here's the quote.
And I don't understand your original question. Now you know - the seller wasn't paid fairly. Are you going to send her a money order or check to cover the difference?

Did you pay the original owner of that $500 car coat the $4500 difference?

Furthermore I read your notes and my questions to you, which you did generously answer several times, were always in regard to me inquiring about purchasing a jacket, weee they not? I was always looking to buy.

My issue has been and remains people who find a jacket in the back of their daddy’s workshop, and then come on here to ask the absolute max number they can in return for this item that arrived in their pocket.

What does this little sales 101 have to do with anything??

You’re acting as if you’re not reselling jackets and making a profit and you are. That’s the issue at hand. Stay focused.

You were looking to gain knowledge (or take advantage as you like to put it)

Same with the people who find a jacket in the back of their daddy’s workshop.

Sometimes they’ll ask for the max, as you’ve done. I see no difference between them and you.

My man, you have the coolest collection I've seen. I don't even know how I could pick with all the cool pieces you have. The only thing this hobby has given me is some time away from other stressful endeavors to look for finds and deals.
It's cost me a lot of time, some cool learning, more money than I ever thought I'd spend on articles of clothing, and some very cool jackets that I've handled or still own. If I made any money at this I'd rather bring that good fortune over to 6 card pot limit omaha where the variance is hot.

--- There was a point in time, a long time ago, where I had started to track out how much I was in for jackets less sales, and I quickly saw how much of a fish I am that I didn't wanna know how much I've spent.

I wish you’d make all the money in the world. That’s not the point. It’s ok to admit you’re reselling and making a profit.

At least you don’t re-list for a profit anymore here on TFL. At the same time, I don’t recall you ever passing on a deal to someone.

I'd just like to note that I never denied wanting to find good deals, that's literally what ever collector across the board tries to do. It's the title of the thread we're in.

The pool here is so small that half the time I couldn't even recoup what I paid for something even if i wanted to. Many of the jackets I've ever sold here were break even or losses. If i was ahead by 200 bucks I'd be surprised.

There's nothing mysterious about any collector who buys a lot, learns stuff, experiences, sells, and loses and wins across the board. That's about all I've got.
