Visiting southern Wakayama and Sandanbeki, a popular sightseeing and sui_cide spot. We partook in the first of those activities.

Just down the road is engetsuto, full moon island. Named for the circular opening, but more famous for the sun shining through the opening at certain times of the day at certain times of the year.

We have a similar place in New Zealand, which goes by the far more poetic name of Hole in the Rock.

Wow that really takes me back, especially seeing the Delcomar ferry in the harbor shot of La Mad. I have spent a lot of time on the ferry between La Mad and Palau (it was run by Saremar back then).

It looks like you went around the entire island. Did you rent a car? I have done that once, the mountain passes are a bit daunting.

Did you see any street markets at all? They had a very good one once a week in La Mad (every Tuesday or Wednesday morning, I can't remember which), but it is finished now, as is the practice of La Passegiata.

Here is one of the few photos I have of me from my time in the area. I always wore a wool cap purchased at the street market in La Mad.

Thanks for sharing, Stefan. You rekindle my commitment to returning one day.

We did rent a car, but with the hills and the roads not always being the best it still took quite a while to get from one place to another. The main north-south route E25 was fine though. The car we rented was not allowed on La Maddalena so we were a bit stuck to the town there. Nothing wrong with that, but we would have liked to see more.
We went from Baia Sardinia to Orosei to Cagliari en finally Alghero. So pretty much around the island. Not many street markets seen; I remember just one. There was a nice fish Mercato in Alghero, which was fun.
Looking like that you would have fit right in back then, Nathan. Probably going around on a scooter like everybody else still seems to be doing.

I went around the area by US Navy ship! ;D

Many afternoons after work I walked up into the mountains above La Mad and sat and wrote poetry. It is an incredibly beautiful and unique island. Then in the summer we got around via zodiac. So many great rock climbing spots, cliff jumping spots, and bars/discos to visit. We weren't so much into food, but we definitely liked a good party!

My first novel takes place in La Mad and Palau, and I have been toying with the idea of a historical novel set in Alghero. It would be a big project though - maybe a retirement project for when I finish trucking.

Congratulations on an excellent vacation!

Bluegrass festival in Athens, AL. Saw quite a few open roads.

The taste…of funnel cakes is sweet, when hats…of strangers meet.

Took a quick trip up to Memphis last weekend. Stopped for lunch at tge Tammy Wynette restaurant and museum in Tremont, Mississippi on the way up, then visited the birthplace of Elvis Presley in Tupelo. Saw a friend's band play at the historic Hernando's Hideaway when we got there, then visited Graceland the next morning before heading back.

Looks like y’all had good time exploring my neck of the woods, Tremont and Tupelo. The TW Legacy Center in Tremont is just over the state line in a neighboring county. Tremont is about 20 minutes from my house and I’ve never even been to TWLC. I look at their calendar every week to see who is playing and the woman and I will go soon. I took her to Tupelo a few weeks ago for a stroll around the Elvis birthplace.

Oh nice! They serve some good catfish at Tammy Wynette's place..and plenty of it for the price. That's the first time in about 25 years I have been up through there. Tupelo has grown a lot. It was a lot faster trip now that I-22 runs all the way to Birmingham, too. Just set the cruise and it's a straight shot.

I 22 has made our lives much easier up this way! You drove through the outskirts of my town, Hamilton, AL on your way to Mississippi. We are the last town you drove through in Alabama before you made it across the state line by way of I 22.

This is us a few weeks ago at Elvis‘s birthplace. Some days are cap days, lol.

Btw, great looking OR! I’m a big fan of the browline glasses with that hat! They compliment that retro look perfectly. Hers too! Y’all look great!
