Big weekend in Algarve:

Went to Gibraltar. Nice place, nice beach.
Spain south is almost like Portugal, lots of hills. Hot weather very cloudy, seemed like being in a oven.

Crossing the airport runway. When a plane needs to land, the road closes.

To go around the rock, there are some tunnels.

And the beach. First time I swam on the Mediterranean Sea. Very very nice.

Next day in the morning I went to the beach, this time "Vila Real de Santo Antonio" beach. Not many people there, the weather was not the best.

Looking to the east, can see Spain.

Looking to west. Can see "Monte Gordo", "Altura" buildings.

In the afternoon, went to "Silves", the medieval show was there.

Lots of small booths selling stuff related to the theme.

Diner was a "Telha" (mixed barbequed meats), some "sangria" and bread.

Yesterday, because it was raining in the morning, no beach. :(

Went for a drive in "Vila Real de Santo António" downtown. Some old nice buildings, sadly abandoned.

Gone to check "Castro Marim" castle for the medieval days that are going to happen near the end of August.

Returning home, come across "Mértola" castle

and "Aljustrel". The view from up there is amazing

Very interesting photos Joao.
Gibraltar is not a so common place to go and your visual diary is very well done.

Right you are, Daniele!

I was there a few times in the mid 1970s. Same rock! We would take the ferry up from Tangiers (across the Straits of Gibraltar), also an adventure! Thank you for the memories.

Glad y'all liked.
I love Gibraltar. Nice place to be, very good prices on tobacco and booze, very british, nice people there.
Sadly 700 kms trip to be made in one day. Only if Spain made a road and a bridge on Guadalquivir river mouth it would be closer.
And yes, my visual is not common there. Lot's of people staring but no comments. :) Not much hats there, some panamas, some cloth, some wool. Nothing much.
Can't say much about the beach, only been there like 30 minutes. Warm and quiet water, the sun was already behind the rock when I got there.

Looks like common sense prevailed in 2011 Dale and the city is better for it. Looks like a great place aside from the apparent warning glyph which looks to caution aliens not to drink the water.

Nice, Dale. Growing up, when I had a number of relatives in the B'ham area, it's what they all referred to as Avondale Springs. Thanks for the lesson.
