Ladies From Hell

I am surprised no one has posted the Highlander uniform! Not sure which Regiment, let alone which country these men are from. Seems there is a lot of controversy with this photo, no expert agrees with the other on it! Sadly appears that the "Ladies From Hell" was made up by a New York news paper writer, just like the U.S. Marine "Devil Dogs"! What a shame, I really liked the stories. Still, brave men, many continued to wear their Kilts right to the end, even with the introduction of Mustard gas, which burns any flesh it comes in contact with, a real problem for the Scotsman who wore his uniform the ancient way!

I rather like the look the new US Army dress blues.
This one got it's inspiration from that most military of all professions, waiters:

And the sharpest of all:

On a serious point, how did the US Army get these so wrong? The Marines and Navy managed to sort out a sharp, good-looking uniform. Why did the Army fail?

My 5 cents

Generally, I've got a strong sentiment towards Austrian WWI uniform. I like 1912 Swedish and 1930s Czechoslovak uniforms, too - probably they are not extremely spectacular, but highly practical, every detail well thought of, and in my eyes they look smart. Speaking of WWII, here are my personal favorites:

Captain, Lancashire Fusiliers

RAAF03_small.jpg

RAAF Flight Lieutenant in BDU jacket and visor cap

USMC-Blues_small.jpg

Captain, United States Marine Corps "Dress Blues" uniform

Red-Air-Force_small.jpg

Captain, Red Army Air Force (1940)

italy-MVSN_small.jpg

Centurione, Italian MVSN/CCNN "M" Battalion

Hi, I agree with their color choice and why they made it. US Army uniforms were blue from the Revolution until after the Spanish American War. Wool is a good material for Uniforms, it's warm when it's wet at least.

Their choice of the Beret leaves me cold, and the white shirt doesn't make it either. I don't know why, the Revolutionary War uniforms had a white shirt, as did many Civil War uniforms. The Marine Dress and Service (Green) uniforms are currently our best.

The blue makes a lot of sense, but the overall picture, in my opinion, just doesn't look right.

Hi

I think that the problem is the white shirt, no jacket, and the blue pants. The bloused Paratrooper look makes it even worse somehow. A blue shirt the same color as the pants worn without the jacket would make it look less like a waiter and more militant.

The Papal Swiss Guards certainly appreciate vintage when they see it.

Those guys are flashy! :)
But I like their everyday or work uniform of sort: always in Renaissance style, but of simple cut, blueish-gray and with a beret (a beret basque more or less in the large style of the french Chasseurs Alpins). Very traditional yet simple and somehow utilitarian.

Plus, they have a very nice cloak or mantel for rainy and cold days

The 1912 Dutch uniform also had a certain Austrian influence to it, particularly in the form of the officer rank insignia and tall kepi. At the same time its greenish shade combined with the sidecap vaguely resembled the Wehrmacht Heer uniform. As far as uniforms go, since I'm an aviation buff, naturally I tend to like air force uniforms whether they be USAAF, RAF, or Luftwaffe.

So many choices
A: The M36 Heer uniform.
B: AEF WW1 Winter uniform, preferibly USMC Forest Green.
On a side note it would be nice to see the Campaign Cover returned to general issue. Why you ask, because our current issue BDU is a dead, pardon the pun, ringer for the M1916 uniform. How strange the past comes back looking even better in updated material.:eusa_clap

an ancient thread revived... well, I think my favorites would be the levee dress uniform of the Ayrshire Yeomanry (tied with the levee uniform of the 11th Hussars), or the full dress uniform of the Queen's Body Guard for Scotland, the Royal Company of Archers.
