A few B&W and color shots from one of my favorite movies, "Strategic Air Command," with Jimmy Stewart.
I picked up a (not cheap) copy of this film and I'm glad I did: it's very good and I'll watch it again several times. The aircraft porn is great, as is the SAC dark blue nylon flyers jackets porn. The only downside might be in a few places they whip out a shameless promotional message for the USAF, but hey without the USAF this film would have been impossible to make. Only one scene, about 3 or 4 seconds long, uses a model plane; everything else is filmed in real life with real planes on real airbases and in the air. In our modern days of CGI, this sort of real-world-ism is a joy to watch. Useless trivia: Stewart wears an N3B, while his crew all wear N2B jackets, plus the insulated overalls.

The 'new' Han Solo... wearing what appears to be... an A-2... and crew.
If he is not already famous, he surely will be...

^ I frigging hate this celebration of youth and freshness and re-boots, which seems to me to be a twisted baby boomer thing, the demographic who still thinks they're 20 somethings even though most are 60 somethings. Hans Olo at that age was in the imperial flight academy, if memory serves, and certainly not an independent smuggler (although he may have been the junior in a smuggling ring).

Here's an interesting factoid I just read on a Canadian Forces discussion forum. Apparently the Royal Can Navy (RCN) had an air arm in the 1960s and the pilots wore G1 jackets. It's the only use of leather jackets by the Can Forces since WW2, as far as the forum knew, and as far as I know. Here's one below, which has a non-USN special tag.

Well, each to their own I guess, personally I am looking forward to this. I love Star Wars and the newer movies have been fantastic... This is not the place to discuss films, but from what i hear, they have a great script... Who knows, perhaps it is about how old (young) Han removes himself from imperial service... ;)
Also, that A-2 looks good, does not look like a mall jacket to me. However, I would certainly cringe if it appeared in the movie ;/

Twisted baby boomer thing... I may have misunderstood, but that is pretty condescending ;) that bill fits almost everyone on this forum, what are we 'old fogies' thinking, wearing leather jackets that belong on 20 somethings...

You're from the UK, no disrespect, but over here in North America we have a different demographic 'curve' and the baby boomers have dominated pretty much everything for the last few decades, and now that they're all turning into seniors, they're going to suck out what little remains leaving a dry husk, especially here in Canada. But I won't say more or I'll get wound up!

^ That's one of the current jackets made from a non-shiny nomex. I'm guessing the size is XL (ha ha). I'm kind of surprised by this, given his preference for wearing suits 24/7 but when in Rome. Thanks for posting. I glance at the DM regularly but missed these pics. I should try to get one of these non-shiny nomex jackets to complete my collection, but I like the older ones.
