Can anyone comment on factors used to determine what heel height one should select if there are options

I think it is just personal preference. Wesco's heels are on the tall side so I plan on ditching a 1/4" heel lift on my 7400's. I am also thinking of doubling the midsole if I go to a half sole Vibram 705.

I think any more than a 1/4" lower would really affect the way the boot feels while walking.

Why double the midsole?

Wish there was a chance to have a walk in the same boot at 3 different heel heights and see what suits.
Also suppose i wish there was a store 5 min from my house with every brand and variant in every size. Is that asking too much?

On the half sole boot like the 1939 boots, the midsole looks oddly thin to me which artificially makes the heel look even taller. I think a double mid sole and lowered heel on that style would make those look better to me. Purely aesthetics for me. That is all.

If I stick with a regular 700 sole then I would not do a double midsole. I think I'd still drop a heel stack though. I'll pick up some of those 7400 boots from Baker to try and if I like them I may send them back and do a custom version.

I actually was trying to break the boots in by doing calf dips lol, then did some deadlift & the high waisted Lee is great!

They were a pair of regular Sears boots bought from ebay. In new condition, from the 80s or 90s, made in Korea, thick leather, tall heel, all rubber sole etc. I liked them as they are all black, have silver buckle, pretty honest looking, no frill, just like an honest 80s motorcycle jacket (think Springsteen). But they were very comfortable for walking around so I decided to have Bakers redo them. James works there as their in house cobbler, but he is actually a seasoned Bootmaker, knew exactly what I wanted in terms of last, measurements, toe structure, heel & sole & insole etc etc, so he hand-build them for me based on my measurements, offered me the option of wood nail (only the BEST uses wood nails), brass or iron nails. He roughened up the glossy veg leather insole so I don’t slip inside, stacked the heel to my desired height & shape. Hand painted the sole black & polishes the edges. Basically, I paid $90 for the Sears, & paid an additional $300 for the re-build, now I have a pair of completely bespoke, hand made boots that wood otherwise cost $800-1000.

New model by Attractions, “the pioneer” apparently based on a 30’s design:

I prefer their 50’s version but these new ones look quite unique.

RRL did it, charging premium. They buy **** old boots & had Bootmakers upfit & sell at $1200
