Engineer Boots, Harness Boots...

Ben the MP toe is a nice choice. Most people like it and I would agree a decent place to upgrade the boots. For some this determines the character of the boot. I have the Boss toe on my Wescos and like the room. You younger guys can afford to be more stylish. I really do like the goal of under $650 set by Bretron if you can but please don't think we are dictating just making what we feel are practical suggestions for first or second pair as you become the expert. Do not mean to offend in any way! You don't have to have the biggest house on the block just to acheive the look.

No offense taken and completely understood. I'm just pretty terrible about picturing how something will look until it's "on". Women's clothes and outfits especially. They show me something on the rack and ask my opinion, my response is almost always "I'd need to see it on you to know for sure".

The toe is definitely a major area..... since it's probably the most visible part of the boot while they are on your feet. I can appreciate both the MP toe and the Boss standard toe for what they are. I like toe room, don't get me wrong, but I want to stay away from a big rounded toe. In the photos I've seen of the Wesco Boss boots, I haven't really gotten that impression (that the toe is overly big and round). What concerns me about the MP toe (and a higher heel for that matter) is approaching the look of a cowboy boot (which I don't want). That's why there's something in me that wants to scale back on the heel height and maybe go to a more standard toe. My other practical concern about the MP toe is crowding my toes to the point that they aren't comfortable, but I have faith in the people at Baker's to size me appropriately. I'm used to wearing dress shoes, so my toes are used to a certain amount of crowding as well.

All that being said, I do like the goal of less than $650 as well...... which I think is very reasonable considering the upgrades I'm considering. If I can get a pair of Wescos to lookclose to the boots that I've posted pictures of above with the brown domain leather for less than $650, I'll be happy.

Just curious, are the Wescos in the photos above with the Boss toe or the MP toe? My guess would be the Boss toe, but I'm a novice at this. I know that the Julian made RRL boots are probably closer to a Boss toe as opposed to an MP toe, wouldn't you agree?

(Edit: I went back and checked the thread and determined that Kato's Wescos that I have pictured are with the MP toe. I even found a picture of him wearing them. They look great.... I'm leaning toward the MP toe. Decisions, decisions...... ).

Here is a teaser of the upcoming Role Club engineer boots. These are made of Horween CXL brown horsehide. I will release official pictures and accept orders in about a month. Thank you for your patience.

Brian - Do I need to reconsider my upcoming Wesco order now? :eusa_clap

I like the looks of what I can see. Brass roller buckles, composition half sole, close trim on the sole edge, white welt stitching, brown edge trim, as kyboots said..... maybe a lower heel. At the very least I know that you'll knock the soles out of the park..... it'll be interesting to see the uppers in the photos to come!

No sweat, bro. I'm really looking forward to seeing more photos and hearing about the specs and options (not a huge fan of brown engineers)

I'm interested too. The only thing on the website so far with a price is the t-shirt; it seems to be fairly priced, which bodes well for the boots! There are some beautiful boots around here, but some of them are pushing into a price band that falls outside what I could justify. My biggest prolem is I like them all - black, brown, burgundy.... Heh. Sometimes I think if my tastes were more limited I'd be a bit better off in the pocket... ;) The one thing I've learned from experience that I prefer to avoid is a steel toecap. I have a pair of Grinders with it in, and a heavy rubber commando sole. Cracking boots for extreme weather or when I need the toe protection, but not boots I care to spend too much of the day walking around in!

After reconstructing so many vintage engineer boots over the years, I always thought to myself when I make my very own engineer boots they will definitely have a very sharp cornered vamp. In my opinion, it makes a boot look more rugged. The triple stitch just tops it off. (The leather used on this sample is a brown latigo that I slightly hand dyed black just for experimental purposes)

^Thank you

Lasting the counter with nothing other than brass tacks. I always have the cobbler in mind who will one day resole these boots in the future. I want to leave a good impression of what Role Club quality is all about. I will do my best to be second to none. Wear'Em With Pride.

I am waiting to see these with some anticipation as well. I think they will be beyond my price range, but I am a fan, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Thanks for all the pics!
