That is one beautiful hat and is indeed a lot of money! Fedoracentric you mention a possible date as being 1930's...
Yeah, when I originally read the description last week when it originally went up I had some notion that it said 1930s. I was not dating it myself, just relating what I thought I had read. After it was pointed out I went back and realized I had not seen that. I was just mistaken. Sorry for causing confusion.

Thank you Fedoracentric for helping clarify. $508...looks like the market has spoken on this felt-type, condition and age!

Too much for my blood, but I do appreciate quality when I see it! Looks like there were 3 bidders, maybe just a smaller playing field when it comes to the style, I'm sure size played into it as well.

I just won 3 actions on ebay a week ago for 3 different Hats. An Adams, An Knox Super fine and a Dobb's Fifteen hat
http://s409.photobucket.com/user/CCorsair/slideshow/

Can post more picture the first 2 were about $20 and some change. The Last after a buying credit from ebay I had I paid about $36 and some change for the Dobb's
Love the feel and all of these hats The Dobb's is one I really like the most With the Knox a close second. The Adams is nice and look very cool but over all the Dobb's has this feel and smell that make you almost want to where it all the time..
I know these are no where near some of the top end hats other have got but I just want to show i am looking at more than the vintage hats for Steampunk too.

Let me know if this slide show works can post the picture another way if needed.

Joao : Yeah, they look extremely wide, but I don't believe, they are more than 1/8" - 1/4" wider than this:

The narrower brim and lower crown make them look much wider, than they actually are ... I think :)

I would guess, they are 22''' - 24''' (2" - 2-1/8").

Ole that ribbon in my hat is 2" wide.
Maybe I oversized ccorsair hats hatbands. because of low crowns. Don't know how high they are, but since some at half-high...

Joao, the Box was labeled "the cattleman" and it had a cattleman crease with a 2 1/2 brim and did not resemble a open road at all.

Here is mine, Dan and John. Wore it this afternoon during my daily walk through the nearby park-like part of the medieval Copenhagen moat. It's a Worth 100% Pure Beaver - Worth being one of Langenberg's brands. It also came with a three-ply (knot-only) ribbon and a raw-edge 3" brim. I cut the brim down to 2-5/8" and changed the ribbon:

The second pic was taken ontop of a piece of a dead elm, that was cut down back in late April. Some may argue, that it is Ash leaves on the branch - which is absolutely correct, but the tree is an Elm. I noticed it during my daily walks in 2012, when it was still standing on it's roots. It's probably a bird, that dropped an Ash-seed into the small "bowl", where two branches divide. I followed it with interest all last year, as the the last parts of the host-Elm died completely. Now this 3-4 yard piece of the wood has been lying on the ground since late April, and the Ash is still struggling to survive.

Sorry to "OT-spam" with this, but it's such a beautiful little reminder to pass every day :)

Here is some screen captures from my web camera This is the Adams http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp178/CCorsair/TheAdams00.jpg and http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp178/CCorsair/TheAdams01.jpg . This is the Knox http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp178/CCorsair/TheKnox00.jpg and http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp178/CCorsair/TheKnox01.jpg.

And last the Dobb's http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp178/CCorsair/TheDobbs00.jpg and http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp178/CCorsair/TheDobbs.jpg

The Robbins are wide but look good.. The Dobb's look the best I think as it also has the wider Brim too. They had good price and the biding was crazy fun.
Here link to a shot of all three hats http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp178/CCorsair/thehats02.jpg

Heh, had a run around with a guy on ebay that gives all ebay sellers a bad name.

This guy advertised his 1900s era top hat as made of "beaver skin."

I emailed him to let him know there was no "skin" in the hat and that it was probably silk anyway. He wrote back to kindly inform me that all hat makers are called their hats "beaver skin" hats like they call shoes "hush puppy shoes," that beaver was hunted to extinction, that hat makers decided not to use "undesirable furs" in their hats, that beaver hides were tanned to make the leather in the hats, and that anyone who doesn't know all this "history" is mentally challenged.
