I knew a fellow who would answer the phone with, "Talk to me"....and end the conversation abruptly with, "Gotta go"...Click!

In some Spanish-speaking countries, one answers the phone by saying "Diga" -- "Speak" in English.

**Ring! Ring!**

You: "Speak!"

The caller: "Um ... hi?"

Italians say "Pronto" ("Ready!")

Germans answer the phone by saying their last name.

**Ring! Ring!**

You: "Schindler!"

The caller: "Um ... your son, Schindler Jr.!"

Arabs answer the phone by saying "May your morning [afternoon/evening] be good."

**Ring! Ring!**

You: "May your morning be good!"

The caller: "May your morning be full of light!"

You: "Praise Allah, your voice is welcome!"

The caller: "Welcome, welcome."

You: "How are you?"

The caller: "Praise Allah!"

You: "Praise Allah."

The caller: "What news? Are you well? Your family well?"

You: "Praise Allah. How are you?"

The caller: "All is well. All is well. Welcome. Welcome."

I remember hearing 'negatory,' I presume a bastardization of 'negative.' Kind of fun to say. 'Pository' doesn't have the same ring to it, though.

Negatory is fine if you look like this guy

This reminds me of when I was in High School and my friends would call my parents house to get ahold of me. The conversation was always the same:

*Phone rings* Mom answers

"Hello"

"Is Tom there?"

"Which one"

"Junior"

"Just a second!!"

.

I was gonna write something like that, but then thought, 'no . . . '

Glad you picked it up, though. :)

It's pretty impossible not to... lol

I always answer my friends and familys' calls with "Talk to me" :p I never abruptly hang up, though, its always either "I'll call you back" (If I have to go that second) or "Buh-bye!"

I never say Goodbye unless I know I'll never see the person again.

Usually "See you Soon", "Talk to you later" or "Take Care"

Same. When I was in 6th grade me and my good friend made a list of rules to live by and one was to never say goodbye because it was too final, and a person could get sad saying and hearing so many goodbyes in their life.
Corny yes, but I was in middle school give me a break. It did stick with me though, I don't ever say goodbye.

I do however give some sort of recognition that I'm done talking to people on the phone.
