The 618 is finally starting to yield after the dunk. I think the dunk helped out a lot. It took about 3 days to FULLY dry out. Afterwards, it was a little stiff, but quickly started to relax. I have been wearing it for about 2 to 3 hours a day and also massaging and crumpling it by hand when not wearing it. More grain is starting to show after the dunk also.

Thank you for giving me hope! I was wearing mine all day while it was raining and it still looks like a plastic statue. Rain had no effect on it. For now. Won't give up 'cause I know what my first 618 started to look like right before I sold it.

Don't give up. This hh was very resilient. It was not wanting to conform. I tried spaying it with a spray bottle and that had no effect. The water just beaded right off. I had to play hardball. Would love to see some shots of your 613!

Have been wearing this jacket every waking moment since then. Good thing my girlfriend seems to dig this jacket as much as I do. (she has a very strong opinion about my 'fashion' choices whenever I attempt to make them haha) Here it is waiting for the next time I go outside again.

Here it is after another week of wear so that'd make it around three weeks of, well, at least daily wear, tho I didn't spend an entire day in this jacket for sure. It did change a tiny bit but...

It still looks almost brand new. Didn't you say this had the felt backing. I wonder if that adds to the break-in period. Maybe your jacket is heavier (lbs.)? Not sure. Looks great though! Just figured it would have some creases by now. Usually you start to see the "cuff" of the sleeve bottoms on Schott jackets fairly early. Once again, yours looks brand new!

Without any doubt. The backing definitely slows down the forming of the creases and just straightens the jacket if I leave it on the couch or something. Lol, sometimes it reminds me of that metal statue of a Perfecto Schott occasionally posts to their IG. But I'm sure it'll get there and an added bonus to the backing is that it is considerably warmer than the other one I got and so far it's been handling these few freezing couple of days we've had really well.

The sleeves and the body panels are lined with the felt, the smaller panels aren't and it's not a thin leather at all but this particular HH is very, very soft. I'm guessing Schott felt people'd complain about the jacket being too soft (especially since this one was produced around the time everyone thought HH is supposed to be stiff) which is why they'd done it. Shame, in a way because it really is a beautiful, soft, natural feeling hide.

I'll have to try this with my 613s--When I have three days to dry it out. I've been wearing it around the house, and the sleeves are more comfortable, but it still looks boxy, plasticy and way too new.

I put it in the dryer after the dunk. I put it on "air fluff" for about 1/2 hour. It was wearable right after. It was damp around the edges for about three days though. You could probably leave it on air fluff for a little longer. I think it helped out a bunch. It was a little stiff after it was fully dry. I crumpled it by hand and it softened right up.

This is my second 618. first one was made in USA. This one used HH tanned in Italy. I believe this new stuff is more resilient. I am sure yours will break in. Would love to see some before and after pics.

If I'm not mistaken, Schott had always used Italian HH. Well, not always obviously but ever since the introduction of the 618 in HH, they've been sourcing horse hide from Italy. They'd just recently began sewing in "Made from Imported material" tag but the leather was always from the same tannery.

I wonder how many tanneries in the US would still make HH? There's Horween and wherever LW gets theirs from... Who else?

@Monitor, That's kinda what I thought also. I thought they always got the leather from Italy. I raised a stink with them about taking the flag out of their HH jackets. The response I got was they import their hide. They said they get their steer from America, hence the flag. I am really not sure what happened. All this talk about being an American original and then taking the flag away kinda rubbed me the wrong way. I guess either way, it's still a great looking leather.

If they always got their HH from Italy and had the flag, why remove the flag now?

Well, my @navetsea challenge is finally complete. It was a little harder than I thought. I wore the jacket for atleast 2 hours a day, but I would say I averaged about 4 hours a day. Over all I am pleased with the results. I feel the jacket is broken in and has lost it's "crispness." This new 618hh took longer than I thought to break in. I would like to try a Schott steerhide sometime.
