Hi Guys

I have 2 FQHH jackets from Lostworlds. Lovely Fit and Quality. The only thing I hate about it is that it much so much noise when i move around. The Jackets are fully broken in and have been conditioned regularly.

Do FQHH jackets from Aero have the same problem or is it just a LostWorlds Phenonemon?

Most leather jackets will squeak. Same goes for leather of many kinds.

Back when I was a reserve deputy, one of our dispatchers was in the hospital for a few days. While on patrol I stopped in to visit her.

When I entered, she said "I knew it was someone from the Sheriff's office coming down the hall - I could hear the leather squeaking."

I'd never thought about it before that, but I've been more attentive to it since then. She was right enough, a full set of gun leathers will usually make a distinctive sound.

I don't mind the creaking sounds that much. I have a LW Suburban Jacket made of FQHH and it makes some noise regularly. I kind of like the particular sounds that my jacket makes!

Behind the 8 ball,..
The stiffer leathers like horse or cow seem to creak, but the softer leathers like goat or lamb do not noticeably creak. I like the sound of leather, just like I like the smell.
It's part of leather's overall appeal to the senses. :)

I love the smell and creak of leather in the morning..!

It just reminds me that I am wearing something of character with its own personality to it that gets better with age. Just like my old beaten-up leather brogues.

So what you guys are saying is that it is a common character of FQHH.

Thanks for the info. I was about to fork out for a Aero, but now I can save the $$$$$$

My Highwayman doesn't creak or squeak noticeably. I'm trying right now and I can't make it squeak if I try. Maybe it's a combination of the individual characteristics of the hide and the finish? Or maybe treatments made after purchase?

I`m getting a FQHH Highwayman soon from Aero...and it better squeak it -would be a real shame if it didn`t make any noise. Like someone said on here, alack of squeaking takes away the authentic, unique quality of leather.

Dear petng,

You are not alone:
This is an excerpt from a novel written by Gyula Krúdy a Hungarian writer in 1917/18: "The BOOK of Canaan"

ORIGINAL
Jégszürke fejű, veremhangú, száraz lóbőr módjára nyikorgó lépésű emberek már manapság azok a magyarok, akik még emlékeznek Magyarország boldog éveire

MY TRANSLATION
---Those Hungarians who still remember the happy years of Hungary are grey haired, raspy voiced old men whose steps squiek like dry horsehide...",
1917-18. Long time before Lost Worlds set up business.... Horsehide did creak/squiek than and there as well. It did that so much that even a classic novelist found it worthy to immortalize that as a metaphor.

The moral of the story is: Lost Worlds works with real horsehide.

You are not alone:D

Horsehide creak/squiek shall be hereby officially epitomized.

Amen
lol

I have Lost Worlds and Aero, my LW squeak also. Even though they are both fqhh they have a different finish. The Aero is more supple while the LW has a harder finish. The Aero seems heavier also than the LW.

If you want to hear creaking I have an old horsehide CHP jacket that creaks more than my great grandmothers rocking chair. It has the hardest horsehide I've ever seen, at least fifty years old and not broken in yet.

There is a scene in the movie "Schindlers List" where Schindler speaks with Stern for the first time. He is seated at a table, and is wearing that beautiful leather coat he wears regularly in the film. He leans forward to make a point in the conversation, and his leather audibly creaks. I remember thinking, gosh I wish I could find some stiff heavy leather jackets that still creaked like that, as opposed to the flimsy stuff on the market nowadays. Since then I have learned about FQHH. Don't own one yet, but hope to buy an Aero Barnstormer some day.

I am absolutely 100% certain that it depends on the finish. If the leather on the arm ,for example, doesn't slide smoothly across the surface of the body then it will squeak - same with the seams etc. The heels on my leather-soled shoes squeak a bit where the midsole moves slightly against the sole leather. Also my 60's G-1s are quite squeeky. If you hold two parts of it together and rub there's friction and sqeakiness. The surfaces of the horsehide on my eastman and aero A-2s however don't squeak as the surface moves smoothly across itself without friction.

To creak or not to creak?

I've got an Aussie-made R-Jays black Brando-style jacket that has a great creak to it, but my Aero Halfbelt is as quiet as can be! Both smell great, though.
