As I've said before, I'm really enjoying this thread and finding it really informative. There's little to no information from other sources around where I live. So I'm going to throw this one out there and ask for opinions. I am seriously considering pulling the pin on these boots, but it's a fair amount of dough and I want to make sure I'm getting the right pair. Oh and I believe in getting the best I can in terms of classic styling/ assembly and a pair that will last a lifetime.

These are running at $431.99 thru Grapevinehill on the 'Bay. 6 week lead in time - should have them for the holidays. Any thoughts (also on sizing - do they run large/small?). They're goat btw. Thanks. :)

I would watch out with classics from ebay...........

As far as size........my classics are true to size......but I bought both pair direct from Lucchese.

Oh? How come? [huh]

There supposed to be "Brand New in Original Box"

I bought mine from Lucchese due their return policy.......and the fact I was dealing with the manufacturer directly......a purchase of this magnitude...I always try to go to the source....besides I do not need heartburn by trying go through paypal or what ever means should something go wrong.

I just won a case against a vendor on ebay through paypal. They are efficient, however, one phone call to Lucchese and I am getting taken care of.

Sounds like good advise Carlisle but again - their website won't sell direct - am I missing something???

I have an older pair of Lucchese black cherry similar to those in the pic. For me they do fit true to size...and also turned out to be the most comfortable boot I've ever owned.

Yeah I'm hearing really good feedback on these. In this case Hoosier, would you agree that this "black cherry" color is akin to the Cordovan color on Aero jackets?

My calves are muscular when I where straight legs they get tight around the calf. My Luccheses are perfect for them.

Mr H
Akin might be a good word. However,Aero's Cordovan can be a bit browner..and sometimes with a slight purplish hue...whereas the Luccchese black cherry is quite dark with slight burnished cherry antiquing. Actually..I prefer the black cherry. I do think that an Aero Cordovan jacket is close enough to go with the black cherry boots quite well, though.

I have two pair of Ariat brand ropers and I love them. They're very well made inside and out. Also, in my experience, they're much more comfortable than the average cowboy boot.

When I'm not wearing shoes or not bicycling I like to wear my Double H boots. I have sensetive feet and cannot tolerate the higher heels of western boots so I stick to ropers and boots with a roper build. That limits me in the exotic skins but I can still find good ones if I look.

Guys I never knew this thread existed so glad it came up. I have to say that Lucchese is still my first choice for an expensive but great boot. Lucchese was bought out a few years ago and started making cheaper lines of boots some imported from Mexico. These are the 2000 series. A step up from the 2000 is the 1883, and the better Lucchese is still the "classic" made in this country. If you save for a Lucchese save enougth for the classics. I equate Tony Lama and Justin about the same. Justin is mainly imported and is owned by Berkshire Hathaway. "The oracle from Omaha." Justin also owns Nocona, so it is hard to escape the big corporations. For dress my favorite is a Lucchese belly alligator boot. Unbelievable boot; Will never wear out and looks great and formal. For everyday to work I prefer a Tony Lama "cushion comfort" full quill ostrich. The ostrich wears forever, is soft and broken in the day you buy it, and this is a greatest boot for everyday wear, even to an office. Even with a coat and tie. The toe of the boot frequently reflects the area of the country and popularity (USA) in which you live. For instance the R toe is popular around Dallas and Kentucky where as the U toe ( rounder toe ) is more popular in west Texas and so forth. I developed a relationship over the telephone with a manager of a Boot City years ago in Texas and he would order me anything at a huge discount because he knew I would take it if it fit. These things are expensive and the market for boots is terrible right know like everything else because of their pricing. Don't be afraid to ask for a discount.( even on Ebay ask for a discount! ) Ostrich has also come down in price considerably over the past few years I believe these are the best value right now. Someone mentioned Ariat and I love those too along with Paul Bond. I had a pair of custom made FQ ostrich boots made several years ago that were never fit correctly by the private supplier and I got stuck with a pair I can't wear. Brown FQ ostrich that should have been a size 12 then; but more likely 11-11.5 instead. I would sell them but for one problem; he stuck my initials on the side.Anyone want to buy a good pair and change their name? John

I have a few pairs of Cowboy boots. The first pair I ever bought were python skin boots I picked up for $25.00 at a local fleamarket, I assumed at that low price they were fake python skin. Come to find out they were real snake, don't know why a brand new pair of python skin boots were sold so cheap, but they fit superbly. I have some black goat skin Nocana boots that are nice, but my favorite pair is a very well used pair of brown Hondo boots, I wear they most everyday!!!!
