I don't know what they did or didn't do in the past, but Ken worked really hard with John Chapman's help, to get my M422a pattern perfect, it wasn't the standard pattern.

Some level of customization is still there, though. Think Simonc's Pioneer with button front. Or that they agreed to taper my Rockafella down from L to M to make the fit work for me. It's just that they don't do full bespoke service.

What everyone said above - the last three of my jackets had room added from the arm pit down to the waist. What I am confused about in the string is that Holly appears to be asking for measurements that haven't been supplied yet... wouldn't that be step one in getting their recommendation?

I think you probably had some wrong assumptions about Aero to begin with. They do customization in terms of details as well as sleeve and back length, but they don't do bespoke to individual measurements and - to my knowledge - never did.

Whether or not I had the wrong assumptions on Aero's ability to customize is not really the issue here. I simply CANNOT believe they are unable (or unwilling) to provide me with pit-to-pit measurements for a 42 and 44 in their "Happy Days" jacket from which to utilize their offer of custom sleeve and back length.

Totally understand and sometimes I am puzzled by different people having totally different experiences at Aero. I do understand their reluctance to heavily modify patterns, especially if it changes their intended fit of the jacket... so for someone who really wants full MTM, they probably are not the best choice right now.

I have never dealt with Aero, simply because I had the same experience as you and could never get accurate measurements. In the end I asked myself, if they are this difficult when they are trying to get my business, what would they be like once they actually had my money?

Under the previous management customisation was easy. The present management (the real old one) has a different approach. Then again, I'm lucky to have more leather jackets than I need. Some customised, some not. No need to buy right now.

However, as a basic principle I would not want to have a loose cut jacket made slim fit. It makes little sense to me, too many things can go wrong. Anyway. over the internet you can never have a truly custom fit, tailor made clothing.

It sounds to me like Aero has been very responsive to your questions; they even found a stock jacket. Why is it a shock that they don't have a stock jacket in every size for every model (if I understand this correctly)? They're not mass-manufacturers. When I got my LHB they upped the fit by .5 inch for me nd it's perfect, but as Tonypaj says, it's an internet order.

Because they have the patterns for the jacket in each specific size.

I also find many people here forget about waist and hip measurements for jackets. Describing something as premium fit, slim fit or boxy are open to interpretation, mistakes can be made and customers left disappointed. If the number of inches is quoted, there are no surprises and everyone is happy.

Well, because not having one on hand isn't the issue - manufacturers usually have the patterns and sizes on file.

That I can't speak to... for some reason that for now is only known to Aero, they don't seem to want to publish this info, including when selling items on their own web page. There are numerous reasons they might want to do this, but I won't speculate. On the other hand, here in the states, Thurston does give this information, including the waist or hip measurement. Their fit jackets take out this guess work and makes sure all dimensions will work before the jacket is made.
