All I'm saying is that people don't seem to be offended by killing and murder but something like nudity gets them raving. I fail to see why.

It's all about context. A TV show about gangsters is a show about violence, because gangsters use it as a tool. A TV show about courtesans (were such a show to exist) is a show about sex, because courtesans use it as a tool. It's appropriate to show violence on the first show, and it's appropriate to show sex on the second.


Now ... if there are any parents idiotic enough to let their kids watch "Boardwalk Empire", then they should be boiled in oil.

The first season was fine. Compared to that, this season is terrible. This is why I'm disappointed. Perhaps I was expecting them to focus on something else than killing. You know, there are different viewpoints you can take to see the situation.

Nudity and violence aside, what about this year's storyline did you find terrible compared to S1?
Season 2 expanded artfully upon last season's storylines with regards to most of the main characters and kept the entire season interesting and exciting. As colorful as the wardrobe palette is on the show the characters are growing in tremendous shades of gray.

Boardwalk Empire is unlike the current season of The Walking Dead which has been a product placement snoozefest. This season of Dexter featured.....wait for it...another hunt for a serial killer in Miami....zzz. Have the law enforcement officials of fictional Miami realized they seem to have the largest concentration of active serial killers in the entire U.S.? :eusa_doh:

Truly, "The Walking Dead" has become a (bad) imitation of a "Survivor"-type reality show.

I felt that the storyline was built on the acts of violence, only going from one to another, consecutively repeating this pattern.

In season one the stress was more on the characters, their relationships, etc. I suppose they were trying to get the people know the characters and their tragedies before murdering them all in the second season.

There is some of the character development in season two as well, but to a lesser degree because they need to show next, almost mandatory, stabbing, incest or shooting-in-the-face scene.

I felt the current season relied too much on violence. The two are hard to separate for me, sorry.

Without getting too off topic, The Walking Dead was absolutely awful this season, the half season finale got things going and I'm still going to watch in February. But if they expect me to keep tuning in to five weeks of snoozefest and then a one episode teaser for next season they're crazy.

I did like Season 2 of BE but I can't help but feel like the series should be over at this point. I mean Tony didn't kill Christopher until the final season. I don't see where they go next season to keep it from being just a shoot em up gangster show. The only story line that isn't strictly bootlegging business I see is his conflict with Margaret coming to a head, which is frankly not something I want to actually watch, she irritates me to no end.

I have been posting the inside the episode clips for the last few shows. As for me they let me know what the writers are thinking and what it all means. They haven't posted the one for this week's final but I will post it here when they do. Jimmy was dead last week. You could see it in the actors eye's that he wanted to die and get the pain over with. He was hoping to die in the war but he didn't. There is a next season and there will be new story lines to follow. This season was very well done. The sex and violence was a lot less that the first season to me.
There was much more storyline progression and development of the reasons behind Jimmy's decisions and why things happend the way they did. Love the show and look forward to next fall and the new storylines that will come forward. The ending of the episode gave next years season wide open as to where the show will go.

The most ironic thing about Nucky is Jimmy was probably still his most loyal friend even at the end there. Eli has shown he is a complete snake. Owen slept with Nucky's now wife. Not only that but Owen did to his old protege what Jimmy did to Nucky. He felt nothing as John McGarrigle was gunned down even though Owen worked right by his side for years. I can't imagine this is lost on Nucky. And now his wife has completely betrayed him after contemplating testifying against him. Killing Jimmy will be the biggest mistake Nucky makes.

I do believe Richard Harrow will kill Owen Sleater, in a previous episode Owen asks "why didn't you kill me" and Richard says "I may yet".

Loved the first season - the story line and the eye candy of the costumes and sets. Season 2 still had the eye candy, but not the finesse in the story line. It seemed almost needlessly violent and sometimes forced (Jimmy and his mom?! - but hey, it's cable and they can show that sort of thing). The final episode broke my heart - I really liked Jimmy's character.

If they follow-up with a Season 3 (which I'm not yearning for), I could see them fast forwarding a decade and Jimmy's son (having inherited wealth from his father, via his grandfather) being a reigning "big man in town." Margaret's cult-like devotion to the church would wear thin for me in no time. But I love Steve Buscemi in any series - he's great to watch.

I am hoping that this show lasts the next season or two. Nucky was first and foremost the main character in season 1, with Jimmy stepping up at the end of season 1 and all through 2. I know they switched off episodes focusing on both Jimmy and Nucky's stories, but Jimmy's role was more prominent in season 2. I was entranced all through season 2, especially with Manny's character, but what's funny is I found myself disappointed when he wasn't pinched in this last episode. I guess I'm disappointed because I feel like the writers have to start from scratch. Maybe Al Copone will be the next Jimmy in season 3.

Yeah, Margaret's whiny religious character gets annoying after so long. She seems shady in general, but don't most cast members when you think about it? It's great that the show never pulled punches.

Maybe it's BS but someone told me next season will be more about the 'BIG' gangsters. Lansky, Lucky, and the likes of Capone. If that's the case. Not sure the show wont suffer from lack of viewers. [huh]

I'll still watch them all of course.

I agree. Van Alden in Capone's backyard not to mention Luciano and Lansky dealing with Rothstein....So many directions to go.

Last week's penultimate episode was the best of the series. Last night's was a bit of a letdown. I knew Jimmy had to die, but I wish we could have gotten a little more of his backstory. i think they killed him off too soon. Jimmy was also our link to the underbelly and that group of secondary characters, which I find more interesting than Nucky's more political storyline. I hope they are able to tie it all together next season somehow.

Just watched the final episode. I thought it was inspired. It's also very gutsy of the production team to show that 'no one actor' is above being removed from the show.

They did this with the BBC Production, "Spooks" about a specialist Counter Terrorist team within the UK Intelligence Service, MI-5. (I think the US relabelled it MI5 for the US Market), whereby you grow to like a particular strong character and then that character is 'to your utter surprise and disappointment' removed/killed off, and you are left thinking..."that person can never be replaced, it's all going to fall apart now...the show has got to come clattering down!"

Then, low and behold, the next new series several months later brings on another 'new character' who at first you cannot identify with and then...over the episodes you get a bond with 'that' character as you grow to know them and they live on for a series or two, becoming an irreplaceable member of the team (as you'd like to think), and 'then' get killed off.

And right through each series they continue to do this and where you *think* the series cannot continue/survive without a certain person, well, in fact it does, again-and-again. In reality, it actually becomes regenerated and you get to understand that no 'one' person is greater than the whole Show & the show becomes quite dynamic because of all this..!!!

I have a feeling that 'BE' may become like that, as Jimmy's demise has shown. I found the trench scene after his slaying, very sad and emotional and powerful.

The other thing I'm noticing is 'how powerful' the women are becoming in their own rights and in their own individual ways, in a time that essentially was a 'man's world.'

Can't wait folks until the next Series (I'm assuming, in 2012 sometime)...Bring it On..!!!!

I watched these after a watched the episode this season. I hope they do them again next year. I always watch the extra's on DVD's as I enjoy the craft of making movies as much as watching the movie. It also clears up to me why things happened the way they did. Especially with Boardwalk's final to shows. As some have reacted to negatively too them.
