BK Rough Wear 27752

This is my first "real" A-2, A BK Rough Wear 27752 in Seal Brown with Olive Drab thread.
I have ordered size 46 (I am 1m90, I think equivalent is 6ft23 ).

First A-2 and first internet buy for a leather jacket (and all measurement in inches... when I speak centimeters...)
Andy was very patient and helpful during the order process, as I asked him so many questions that I would have been tired to answer!

Based on my indications, Andy advised me to order a 44, but I decided to go for a 46 as I was afraid that arms length would be too short (but then waist could be too big).

The jacket is great, I like it a lot. The quality of the leather and manufacturing is great.
As I saw A-2 only in picture, I cannot certify accuracy compared to an original RW27752, but it looks accurate.

As I never had any horsehide jacket, the first impression was: wow! that's tough... I can only compare with the cowhide of my Schott 184sml... nothing in common, it is 2 different worlds.
(and now I understand the meaning of "break in the jacket" which I was not sure about).

Out of the box, I thought the arm length was too short, but after some wearing the arm length is ok, and maybe the waist is a bit large, but it allows me to move confortably and I am really happy with the jacket.

As it is now too warm, I only wear it in the evening at home for 5 minutes... but it feels great!
I am really impatient to be this autumn so I can wear it outside.

Here are some pics, enjoy and tell me what you think about it (too big, too small, etc...).

and some pics of the jacket "on the man".
as I am not confident enough yet to post my pics on a forum, I asked one of my childhood tv series "hero", Robert "Pappy Boyington" Conrad to lend me his face...

Looks good Pap, er, Fukigen! You can get the arms wet and stretch them if you feel you need to, but it looks spot on to me. For myself, I have to have more length in the sleeves, but I'm paranoid.
If you look at 100 old WWII pics, you'll see fit all per the place. From here, it looks nice!

I like it! :) Since some of us are considering a BK, it would be very helpful if you could give us some dimensions; shoulder to shoulder, armpit to armpit, back length.

Pappy wore a m422!

out of the box and the first time I wore the jacket, arm length were shorter... (my impression) and the jacket seemed stiff.
but now (and on the pics), arm length is fine for me, it looks exactly as I want it to be, and I feel very confortable in the jacket.
this is maybe due to horsehide leather? not sure, as I do not have other experience with such jackets.

just the waist has some space, but I feel confortable like this.

I have read about the "shrink" process with water, and I was thinking to apply it on my Schott as it looks a bit too baggy (I lost 10 kgs (22lbs?) since I bought it 12 years ago) , but I am not confident about the operations and how the leather will appreciate it.
I think I would prefer to sell the jacket or giving it to my brother who is taller than I, and to buy a new one.

Yes, give it to your brother or sell it to fund the next jacket. There WILL be a next jacket. You're hooked now lol

there is only the limit of the bank account... clothes rack space... and most important and tougher point, the negotiation with the wife!! ;)

Very nice RW. The colour of the leather on originals from this last contract varied from russet to the more commonly seen dark seal. The leather is very pebbly and looks more like goatskin than horsehide.

Yes it looks like goatskin. Not exactly, but close. It's from a sample batch of horsehides that was tested with a few jackets made but it was decided not to order them for this very reason. That it looks like goatskin. It's amazing what tanneries can do with the leathers. They can even make horsehide look like lambskin. They can make almost anything, except maybe to give it the correct look.

twelve o'clock high!
thanks, I didn't know there was a TV serie, only knew about the movie, need to check this out!

I agree, it looks all the world like goatskin.

aaaahhhh!!! :eeek: heart attack... :kick:
I am not a leather specialist, the texture is different from the picture of GW jackets, but looks like pics on BK website... also on the website it is specified the jacket is horsehide and I specified it when placing the order. (I am not sure it has any meaning, but jacket smell is nothing like I have encountered before, not like goatskin jacket one of my friend has, maybe due to tanning method?)
I was thinking that maybe the leather quality would explain the price difference between GW and BK jackets.

I will ask Andy from BK about it... I would be quite  :rage: if it appears to really be goatskin...
want my :deadhorse

Thank you very much for your feedback, and I will provide you answer I will receive about this.

I am not a tailor, so I did my best. Let me know if an information is missing.
Below are links to pics with dimensions.
! pay attention, measures are in centimeters, you need some calculation to convert to inches ! sorry for the pain...
(just google "Xcm inches" and you should get the answer from google calculator)

Remarkable! I have never seen horsehide look so much like goatskin! What on earth do they do to create the pebbly goatskin-like finish?
