Quick question: What is a 50 yr old pristine Stratoliner worth?
a couple of hundred? more?
I know, it's worth whatever a buyer is willing to pay. But generally...?

A 50 year old hat means late 1960s...Stetson was well into it’s steep decline in quality. Add another ten or more years to the date of manufacture and then you might have something. A lot more is needed for a more accurate estimate. What “quality” level? What size? A mint size 6 5/8 might not get a bid at any price. The same hat in 7 5/8 might go for $200+ Although, a late 1960s hat will probably go for less.

I've seen a number of pristine vintage 50's/60's Strats here and elsewhere at the $200 mark or less. (The one's on eBay for $350+ are way over priced in my opinion). If 50 years old means a 70's model, my pocketbook says around $125 unless there is something truly unique about the hat.
I have no dog in this hunt & It probably went over a bit, but it all boils down to how much you want it. I always think it’s sour grapes for someone to tell another what market price should be like n anything.

And remember, there comes a time when a 1960’s Chevelle is worth a lot more that a 1930’s Model A Ford to the collector.

My wife picked this up at a garage sale. Estate sale really. I defiantly has some age to it. But I can not find anything about it. No Maker just Wonder unless that is the maker, Russian leather on the sweat band. Thanks.

No clue. I’d call it a cap and not a hat, but that’s just semantics. My feeling is that caps can be made with a smaller investment in equipment and more companies made them. Additionally, it think that fewer vintage caps survive more than a decade or two. The vintage cap world isn’t well represented here. All of which is a long way of saying I don’t know, not that I have any expertise, any history on your cap. If it fits and is in good nick I’d just wear it.

Yeah, that was it. Kinda surprised how much it brought...plus the $47 shipping. You can buy a new one for about half that total expense.

And I live close to the Stetson factory where you can buy a new Stratoliner for around $75,

I didn't read thru it but if it came with the original box then the high shipping charge was for double box shipping. Most collectors would want the original box with the hat. As far as price remember it is a 50 yr old (actually 1973 I think) desirable hat. Even the Deckard era Strats now coming on to the auction market are bringing $125 & up.

The bidders wanting that Strat weren't wanting something from the Outlet store.

Own one nice vintage hat and you’ll understand why the bidders weren’t thinking about what their money could buy at the outlet.

Hi all, long time no see...I was planning to order a new BG Campdraft and a new sand Traveller. I have also looked at the Leisure Time from Akubra. I have 2 Banjos and they would be very similar. The LT is offered in navy. I think I have read here years back that navy is a very impractical colour. Shades of brown, grey, green, white, black, are all typical and that is probably for good reason.

Any thoughts on navy blue? My search here returned very few results.

Welcome back Mike! In my completely amateur, uninformed, "don't give a rat's backside for what anyone else thinks" opinion, I say you should get a navy blue Leisure Time if you want one; life's too short to worry about whether or not it's practical and/or what other people think about it.

Found 2 nice hats at Salvation Army today: one a very tiny grey Royal Stetson sized 6 5/8 and one a little larger with no markings but a Dobbs shield (dark brown with the number 593 handwritten inside). Any thoughts on these. I assume the stetson is a child's hat? Thanks for your help! I'll try to get pictures too.

Pictures always help.
6 5/8 is small, but not unheard of as an adult size at all 70 years ago. We're bigger than people used to be.
I bought a small long haired Champ because it was priced low with low shipping. I believe it's probably late 50's. Size tags are gone and I haven't looked under the liner, but it's a 6 5/8, or a 6 3/4 that shrank. I believe it was a man's hat. It looks like a toy perched on my 7 1/8 head.

Thanks very much! I smiled when I read your response. You are right, if I like it I like it.

Hey, I think I sold that hat to you. Tiny, isn’t it? I was just hoping that someone could use it rather than me throwing it away.
