"Arctic Issue" B3 jackets:
Natural sheepskin - This is just rough out suede with fur on the other side right? Does the outside get darker with sunlight like the raw cow/horsehides? Thanks.

I have a few natural sheepskins on my chairs and they haven't changed color over the years. Are still white, even if a little dirty.

Anyone with a schott steerhide jacket have a part of the jacket the shows no creasing or graining? Admittedly this is still not fully broken in, but if you look at the ends of the sleeves, one of them is starting to crease and show texture. The other is still rigid and smooth. This seems to be the only part of the jacket that has not shown any change. Can I expect this to change with time?

At the risk of being a bit of a hypocrite, I will say that this is just the nature of the hide: varying grain tension throughout different panels, sometimes even the same panel. Sometimes it only becomes apparent after cutting and sewing. Sometimes the cutters don't bother trimming around mismatched grain for economical reasons. I can understand if you find this inconsistency annoying as it triggers my OCD as well, but it is not a defect of the leather. I think you can expect the rest of the leather to begin to show creasing and grain as it's worn, and eventually this odd spot will blend in with the rest of the jacket. Crumple up the rest of your jacket a bit if it bothers you, lol.

Think you understood me the wrong way around. I like the texture and crumples, and most of the jacket is starting to show this. It's the smooth part which is the anomaly and I'm hoping starts to wrinkle too

Ah, I see. You can leave the smooth section or you can try working it with your hands a bit, flexing it to see if you can get some grain going there too.

Not Schott specific. Grain development isn’t something you can always predict which is why you’ll have cases where some panels of a jacket get much grainier than others. However this overall looks so new that I can’t say we’re necessarily seeing a real divergence yet.

I have a Freewheelers Darius Vest in ochre deer skin that has stains. How do you clean deer skin??

Getting stains out of light-colored leather is tough. If the deerskin has no topcoat, it is even tougher/impossible. If it was my vest, I'd soak it in a tub in warm water with some mild detergent. Knead it gently all over, but don't rub the stain or around it, or it will only get worse (deerskin will get lighter around the stain and it will look horrible if you rub). Gently knead the vest and hope the detergent pulls out the stain. Much depends on the nature of the stain, too.

I'd wear it as-is. The stains add character.

Don’t do anything. Yours will get like that in no time, stains like crazy.

If you don’t like patina stay away from Freewheelers deerskin. I rub my bald head or face then touch the leather and it gets stained.

Thoughts on the fit of this? Ignore the weird sleeve shape around the left (right on the screen) cuff, as this is something that needs to be repaired

Gut instinct is this is a catch and release due to the lack of taper

I will add that if it's not doing it for you now it likely never will, so consider that when deciding what to do.

Yep, the laces are tied fully. It’s above the laces where it protrude a bit. I wouldn’t say it’s not doing it for me, rather it could be better, which is why I am somewhat on the fence (though leaning to selling)

As a fellow long lean lad I share your pain when it comes to sizing jackets. If your gut says move it, I say listen.

Or you can have the jacket made tighter on the sides, like I did with my Lewis Leather jackets.

Tapering is an option. Do you mean alterations on the current jacket? I may consider it as well for an incoming jacket of mine if it's too wide at the waist but otherwise a good fit. It might be worth it considering the money saved buying second hand, as long as the alterations aren't too expensive. I've seen around here that Great Leather/Leather Care Specialists come highly regarded for such work.

Yes, on the current jacket. It is as you say. If the jacket otherwise fits well and I would like to keep it, then the alteration would be an option. I have paid for the changes of my jackets 60 EUR each.
