Any idea about the origins of this garment?

Any idea where this garment came from? It's a shirt and trousers made of the same fabric (and it can be different colors). Do you have any more archives? Apparel Arts gives this garment a Riviera origin in a 1936 issue. It seemed very fashionable in the South of France (this photo was taken in Cannes, I think) and in the United States. Apparel Arts calls it a "beach suit," although that seems like a generic term to me. It was a shirt and trousers made of the same fabric. I have the impression of seeing a "civilian" garment from the French Navy's 26bis. Note that it also existed in a Bermuda shorts version. I've only found two or three photos of this garment being worn. Everything else is from Apparel Arts or an advertisement from the late 1940s. I'm tempted to call it a "Cannes suit," what do you think?
