Tom,

At times I have communicated ideas regarding what Camp Drafts can be based upon what they are. Several times, you have attempted to bind the discussion to a narrow view of what currently is originally offered by the manufacturer and vendors.

From what I see, you are free to discuss the various features of the Camp Drafts and Campdrafts to your heart's content. However, I wonder how do you derive the ability to dictate the parameters of other people's discussions. Considering that the responses indicate a substantial interest in possible customization of CampDrafts, how do you justify censoring the discussion? You shut BJ down and attempted to shut me down once in the past. But this is especially annoying since within the next page after being rude to BJ, you posted your own CAMPDRAFT with a leather hatband from Art Fawcett. (Seems like a banned modification by your own standards and therefore not appropriate for this thread...) You even referred to the previous alteration job as a WAR CD which would by some of your writings constitute an oxymoron.

"New to me from a former regular Lounge member who made it a WAR CD but I put a thin leather hatband made by Art Fawcett on this Taupe Fawn Imperial..."
IMG_20121207_150633_418.jpg

As if that were not enough:

"Thanks Rusty.... I'm thinking of using the ribbon off the Bushman I got recently for a change now & then. I got a couple of nice leather hatbands out in OK & like being able to swap them around..."

While I was newer to the forum than this portion of the CD discussion, I did read the complete Akubra Campdraft thread before purchasing one or posting much in the thread. Some of my tastes and ideas actually came from your writings. While I am grateful for the knowledge, I do not accept your limits upon free speech.

But, by using your own terminology, my Camp Draft is a temporarily customized Mid-Ribbon Camp Draft which by your own example can have photos posted of the modifications and be discussed here as it is a CD - modified or not...

Dictated? Banned? Shut me down?
Wow... I'm sure heavy handed around here...
Let's see how forceful I was originally ...
"Let's keep this thread for the traditional Campdrafts & use Akubra Overload for variants. JMHO"

And then of course all the Halt, Cease & Desist, Get Out of Here...verbiage I used since then...

Yep, I am a powerful ogre of a dictator of The Lounge....

The phrase "Lighten TF Up!" comes to mind....& from Tombstone "My hypocrisy know no bounds..."

Apparently, it does. And if that was an oblique challenge, it is accepted. I suggest tin cups at high noon... ;-)

Seriously, 12 ounce curls might be more appropriate.

... and shouldn't this entire debate about what is or isn't a conversion actually be on the "Conversion Corral...?"

Asked and answered.

"I understand your thinking regarding the Conversion Corral, but using your same strict thinking regarding the title and original intent, that thread exists for the conversion of rigid western hats into heavy fedoras. That is clearly not the case here."

Having read the thread, I have demonstrated that it often discusses Campdrafts modified and not. I am following the stare decisis of the thread without apology.

There are some who see the Campdraft as a final product and others who see what it can be with some minor modifications. Is one faction to be snubbed from communicating their vision for the Campdraft in order to preserve some concept of Camp Draft purity on the part of a few others?

I see potential for making Campdrafts into something other than their original form much as some people would alter a production car into something else. I rebuilt Mustangs and Cougars years ago. Some became very different from their original form while others remained stock. In both cases we used a number of resources in learning and discussing the topic. There was push back at times from purists at times and and there were also positive discussions. Purists and customizers exist in most environments. Some things never change - except that in some forums, one faction does not attempt to send the other down the road.

There are members here who have stated an interest in what Campdrafts can be rather than viewing their present form as sacred. They are not museum pieces - they are working hats.

With that thinking in mind, I found Bond to have some nice ribbons for the Silverbilly convertible already shown and also got supplies from http://www.hatsupply.com/grosgrain_sweats.htm

But I am still looking for a source of appropriately colored 1 inch millinery ribbon to give my Bluegrass Green and Moonstone hat bodies into Mid-Ribbon Camp Draft convertibles. If anyone knows of a source, I would appreciate hearing it.

Thanks in advance,

Fed

I appreciate your thoughts Fed and thank you for clarifying the original intent of the Conversion Corral. I too agree that discussing the converted Camp Draft is appropriate to this thread. I find it informative and enlighting. Im raising the question as to if the actual debate/discussion/argument/dialogue (or whatever you want to call it) re: the "legitamacy" of the converted Camp Draft might be better placed on another thread. Maybe it's own?

Given that the weather is getting warmer, and the straws are making an entrance, I was wondering if there was any interest in getting ready for the fall felt season by setting up a custom Campdraft build with EA.

Remember seeing some earlier posts pushing for an all black version (I'm onboard), but open the floor to other suggestions.

Not to dilute the Camp Draft thread... but I would love to see EA get the Fed.

I would like to see a light grey/silver/dove colour that Stetson and others do so well.
