Then forget Vicenza (I have and like Vicenza, to be clear) and get Badalassi. The depth of color is unmatched by the other leathers, by a wide margin.

Given I'm looking for a lightweight jacket (with the understanding no leather is like a linen-cotton jacket), does the Badalassi match the Vicenza for milder temps?

The leather you choose matters very little for that. The lining makes the real difference.

Maybe the current batch of Vicenza is nice and soft so that could be why she is suggesting it. There was a batch of nice seal Vicenza not long ago when one of the member got an x-zip in it. Hard to say only they know.

TBD. Carrie was planning on sending Vicenza but I still have time to change.

In sunny warmer weather, unfinished or natural Vicenza is certainly the first choice.
For darker leather, it doesn't matter at all. It will be too warm either way. But then I would rather go for the goat with the thinnest lining there is. My unfinished had a thin cotton drill, which has fit quite well to the summer leather.

I do have one Vicenza jacket that is very soft and drape very well, seal brown Aeromarine. But all my other Vicenza jackets (navy, black, blacken brown, olive) have been on the stiffer and thicker side. So I do believe batches matters. However everything breaks in, just matter of time.
The current chestnut badalassi is a bit thinner and requires no break in. That is the case of my recent cafe racer. But the previous Badalassi, black, russet and tobacco are too on the heavier and stiffer side. Although still softer than most of my Vicenza experience. Again batches may give different experience but everything breaks in.
The two kelpie jackets I have green and black are on the lighter side in thickness and requires no break in at all. But the oil finish may feel rubbery to some, and the leather markings shows through more on the kelpie leather.
The Badalassi is only £25 more than the Vicenza, but imo there is more return on investment.


Everyone always overlook goatskin. We just need a big name tannery to stand behind them and get the word out. Easily the best everyday leather, just no big tannery name.

I've been wearing my goatskin PHWM daily and got to say that I am strongly considering keeping it based heavily on the leather... Such a easy, supple leather... For easy to pick up and wear jacket, this is absolutely perfect.

Nothing has the color depth of the Badalassi.

I've been wearing my goatskin PHWM daily and got to say that I am strongly considering keeping it based heavily on the leather... Such a easy, supple leather... For easy to pick up and wear jacket, this is absolutely perfect.

Goat is also my favorite leather for daily wear. It doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Not as exotic as horsehide, not as big name brand as Badalassi. But a true champ for daily wear. Aeros goat is see through dyed so it will age well and patina.

short answer No. Long answer possible. I'll take a photo to compare the two when I get home. Badalassi has a shiny look that just screams luxury. With it comes the squeak. Goat has a lot less flash. In 90s automobile terms, Badalassi is the f355 berlinetta, the goat is the NSX (the one from the 90s, not the current one).

Nice ride. E39 M5 is a special one. As rare as the E500 that came later to compete, I'd still take the earlier E39 M5 over it. You might like the goat better in this case. If you are moving from denim to leather, either Vicenza or Badalassi might be more suitable. But if you are coming from wool suits, goatskin may just do it for you.

This is speculation. I wouldn't call it Vicenza then. People have theorized that a lot of different leathers are the same as "Vicenza" and have usually been wrong. The only ones confirmed to use it are Aero and Good Wear.

Thanks, this is really helpful. I talked to Carrie today and I get my fit jacket on Friday.

And yeah to the E500. Those and the S600’s were such highway rocket sleds. I think the biggest non m / AMG / RS German sleeper was the 760i with that pair of turbos. That’s a bonkers, huge car.

Great stuff on measurements for lengthening, and noted on the break-in time. And I do like using handwarmer pockets, but was thinking they wouldn't lay as flat over time if I didn't include zippers. Thoughts here?

The hardwarmer pockets on the Seven are angled and any body movement naturally seems to help mine crease back inwards rather than puff out. I do recall some people saying when I was seeking advice on mine that the pockets may bulge but it has been a non-issue for me. Additionally, Aero does a great job of reinforcing the edges of the pockets so they do seem very stiff.

I was also looking at the Badalassi when making my decison. My test jacket was in Badalassi and it was squeaky as hell. It was hard to pass on as it was a beautiful leather. Might want to ask Carrie to see if this squeak still persists in recent batches.

My Vicenza was slightly stiff at first, but it was a nice medium weight and thickness so it started softening quickly.

Goat is wonderful wearing but I never did like the graining.

You might also like the soft steerhide. The Seven is very slim in the sleeves, and a softer hide would be my choice.

I have a few ideas for your seven. 2” Front drop, smaller neck hole, thinner leather in sleeve gussets, and zipper that ends 1.5” up from bottom. A Seven with these tweaks would be just about perfect.
